The closer school gets there is a rush to get things done, shares TriCounty Health Nursing Director Nicole Smith.
The bodies recovered inside a pickup truck from the Green River on Wednesday are believed to be the three Vernal men who went missing on May 22nd. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office issued a release stating that the search for Robert Spoon, Jason Tilt and Jacob Tilt had continued on Wednesday with the search of a targeted area of the Green River in Jensen and that a vehicle matching that of the missing persons was located and pulled from the river at about 11:30am.
A man who drowned on Wednesday in Kenney Reservoir near Rangely, Colorado has been identified. 32-year-old Francis Manu had slid into the water off the cliffs and had not resurfaced.
The Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce 4th Quarter Outstanding Public Service Award recipient is Sidney Smith. Smith is the general manager of the Holiday Inn Express who has been in Vernal for 5 years now. Smith is known in the community as a para-triathlete and has been featured this year in media as an inspiration.
Vernal City Manager Ken Bassett will soon pass off the torch to a new City Manager. Bassett began his employment with Vernal City in 1978 as the Assistant City Manager. He took over the Manager position in 1981.
Crews responded to a fire in Uintah County on Tuesday. According to Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, the fire occurred around 5:30am and crews from Vernal City and Uintah County Fire Departments responded. The structure fire was located at approximately 1000 South 3700 West.
The Uintah County Commission approved a tax rate on Wednesday that will keep taxes the same as citizens paid in 2016. The topic flared up last week when a tax rate was presented to the Commissioners that would increase the cost to property owners by $6 dollars on a $100,000 dollar home or $11 dollars on a $100,000 dollar business.
Mother nature joined the Outlaw Trail Theater stage crew for Tuesday’s performance of Singin’ in the Rain, providing scenic lightning in the background for the show’s signature number. Crowds have loved this year’s production of the iconic musical that includes all the dancing and music from the famous movie.
A group of local baseball sluggers worked hard to make their dreams a reality over the last year. After a year of skill building and fundraising, the Uintah 12U baseball team traveled to Cooperstown, New York last week for an intense tournament and amazing experience. The team placed 10th overall out of 50 teams from all over the nation.
Proposition 1 is expected to be included on the 2017 election ballot in Uintah County. According to Uintah County Commissioner Duane Shepherd, Naples City and Ballard have both formally submitted their request to the county that Prop 1 be included. Vernal City Council approved their own resolution to request it back in May.
Monday’s public hearing regarding the 2017 Certified Tax Rate for Uintah County offered several perspectives. While majority of the community input received was critical of the county budget, there were also comments from a county perspective.
