Ute Tribe Part of Effort Supporting Bears Ears National Monument
The Ute Tribe is part of a joint effort of tribes supporting the Bears Ears National Monument. After U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke visited Utah following President Trump’s executive order to review national monuments, a 15-day comment period was opened for the Bear Ears National Monument.

Sheriff Urges Safety In and Around Water
Streams, creeks and rivers are high and flowing fast with spring runoff. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office has offered a timely reminder for citizens to make safety a top priority. “As school nears its end and a busy summer season gets ready to kick off, it’s important to mention the fast moving rivers and streams in our area,” shares the Sheriff’s Office.

The 4-H Junior Livestock Show is around the corner and the impressive youth involved are excited to present their animals for bid. This year’s show runs from June 5th through the 8th during the Uintah County Fair.
Uintah County Adopts Recycling Market Development Zone
The Uintah County Commission adopted a resolution this week to form a Recycling Market Development Zone. The zone utilizes a program through the Governor’s Office of Economic Development that offers recycling tax credits to industrial and commercial businesses that choose to adopt certain recycling processes.
Livestock Harassment No Laughing Matter
Members of the Uintah Basin Cattlemen Association aren’t the only ones that take livestock harassment seriously. An instance of livestock harassment on Taylor Mountain last August resulted in charges and a conviction. According to Richie Anderson with the cattlemen association, an individual was on an ATV and struck several livestock.
BLM Seeks Input for Book Cliffs Travel Management Planning
With the Environmental Assessment on the Book Cliffs Travel Management Area underway, the BLM is inviting the public to offer their input. Specifically the BLM is interested in information or concerns related to roads, routes, or trails.
Protection of 2nd Amendment Aim of Bishop’s Bill
Representative Rob Bishop has introduced a new bill that is garnering plenty of attention. H.R. 2620, the Lawful Purpose and Self Defense Act, would eliminate ambiguity in the current code that could lead to restriction of firearms and ammunition for self-defense. “The Founding Fathers were clear when they drafted the Bill of Rights,” shares Rep. Bishop.
Heatstroke: the Number 1 Killer of Children
Ashley Regional Medical Center has an important message as summer approaches and temperatures rise. Heatstroke is the number one killer of children, outside of car crashes. Ashley Regional has paired with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to strive to reduce heatstroke deaths by teaching the community the dangers of heatstroke and leaving children in hot cars.
Uintah County Election Agreement for Local Entities
Uintah County approved an election agreement for local entities that request that the county handle their elections. We are still waiting to see if there will be a county wide election within districts, shares Clerk Auditor Mike Wilkins, but Ballard City, Maeser, Ballard water, and Ashley Valley are ones that have contacted Uintah County so far to perform their elections.
Memorial Weekend Boaters Required to Stop at Inspection Stations
Memorial weekend is the kickoff to the boating season for many Basin families. Whether entering or exiting the Basin at Daniels Canyon, boaters are required to stop for an inspection or risk being cited. Three mandatory inspection stations are set up around the state, one in St. George, another at Bear Lake, and the third on Highway 40 at the Daniels Canyon point of entry.
