KNEU 1250A unique event coming up in Meeker is aimed at cultural celebration and preservation. What is being called Oldtimers’ 2017 is taking place on June 3rd and includes the “Capturing Our Culture” event where citizens can come in as families or groups to simply discuss life in the area in order to create oral histories on video.
Two public figures well known for their civic service were presented with special recognition awards during the Vernal Chamber annual meeting and awards banquet. The first was given to former Uintah County Commissioner Mike McKee who served as Commissioner for 14 years.

Tis’ the season for orange cones and construction workers. The 2017 construction season is underway and UDOT plans to stay busy in the Uintah Basin. Work is already underway on the Highway 40 Myton to Roosevelt widening project that will add two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 14-foot center median turn lane and 10-foot shoulders.

Good company, great food, and ambiance filled the Uintah Conference Center on Thursday night for the 68th annual meeting and awards dinner for the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce. Utah Department of Transportation Executive Director Carlos Braceras kicked off the event as the special guest speaker who delivered a powerful message on transportation needs statewide and within the Uintah Basin, driving home the message that seatbelts save lives by citing statistics.
The Daggett County Republican Committee announced their nominee to serve out the remainder of Jerry Jorgensen’s term as the Daggett County Sheriff. Sheriff Jorgensen submitted his resignation in April, citing his desire to help the county move forward in the process with the Utah Department of Corrections after state inmates were removed as part of an investigation into inmate abuse.
A very special group of athletes will make their way down Main Street in Vernal today for the 2017 Special Olympics torch run. This year the athletes will be on bikes and riding on a firetruck between the Uintah County buildings starting at 2:30, heading west and ending at Wendy’s by 3:00pm.
Who could forget the day in June of 2014 when a blue 10 ton tractor broke halfway through the Browns Park Swinging Bridge and sat suspended over the Green River? For over two years, Colorado officials worked to secure funding to enable the bridge to be repaired and fully functional again.

Remember that the bypass flows are being released from Flaming Gorge Dam and caution is needed while fishing and boating.

The criminal misconduct at the heart of the Daggett County Jail scandal has received serious condemnation from the Attorney General’s Office. The charges were announced on May 5th after an investigation by the Utah Department of Corrections Law Enforcement Bureau and a review of the findings by the Office of the Attorney General.
