The dream of running the Boston Marathon was a relatively new one for one local woman who lived that dream just 10 days ago. 35-year-old Cara Murray is a devoted mother, wife, and farmer in Lapoint.

The Uintah High School Student of the Week is Nadya Polendo, nominated by Mr. Brian Clark. The Ute Athlete of the Week is sophomore baseball player Kyler Murray, nominated by Coach Brent Labrum.
Basin Unemployment Continues to Tick Down
Unemployment numbers in Basin counties are continuing their downward trend. The Department of Workforce Services released the updated numbers this week. Daggett County made a slight shift down from 4 to 3.9 percent unemployment.
Uintah Recreation Special Service District Report
Uintah Recreation Special Service District Director Robin O’Driscoll made a presentation on the health of the rec district during the city/county meeting on Monday. The rec district was created in 1996 and opened the Uintah Community Center in 2008.
Daggett Commissioner to Act as Sheriff; Uintah County Interlocal Agreement
The Daggett County Commission approved a motion on Tuesday to act in the role as Sheriff until the Republican Committee makes their recommendation. Sheriff Jerry R. Jorgensen submitted his resignation on Sunday, citing his desire to help the county move forward in the process with the Utah Department of Corrections.
Simple Changes Recommended for State Pheasant Hunt
The Division of Wildlife Resources is always thinking ahead to the next hunt and some changes are being recommended for the statewide general pheasant hunt. According to an announcement this week, it’s being recommended that there be just one general pheasant hunt that would start the first Saturday of November and end on the firstSunday of December.
Uintah County and Cities Discuss PROP 1
After failing to get enough votes in the 2015 election, Proposition 1 is being considered for an upcoming ballot in Uintah County. City officials and County Commissioners met on Monday and discussed the updated law regarding Prop 1.
Uintah County Joins UAC Group to Handle Centrally Assessed Tax Appeals
Uintah County Commissioners will be utilizing a new service offered through the Utah Association of Counties (UAC) aimed at helping counties manage appeals to Centrally Assessed Taxes. County Services Support, Inc. is a 501-C4 corporation that will cost the county $2000 dollars annually in exchange for resources and support as counties have companies appeal their centrally assessed taxes.
Utah’s Updated Employment Report
The state Department of Workforce Services has released the state employment summary for March 2017. Employment grew by 3.2 percent meaning 45,700 jobs were added to the economy since March 2016.
Daggett County Sheriff Resigns
Daggett County Sheriff Jerry R. Jorgensen has resigned, citing a desire to help the County move forward in the process with the Utah Department of Corrections to return inmates to the Daggett County Jail. A press release from the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office states that Sheriff Jorgensen resigned Sunday, April 23rd.
Duchesne County Announces Availability of Federal Flood Insurance
Citizens of unincorporated areas of Duchesne County are now allowed to purchase federally-backed flood insurance, an option which was previously only available to citizens of Duchesne City and Myton City.
Maximum Releases Continue from Flaming Gorge Reservoir
Maximum releases continue from Flaming Gorge Reservoir and are anticipated to remain at this level through the remainder of the spring runoff season. According to the Bureau of Reclamation, releases are currently at 8,600 cfs with maximum power plant capacity and two full bypass tubes.
