KNEU 1250On November 22nd, 2006, a Detective for the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office lost his life while on a Search and Rescue mission. 34-year-old Detective Kevin Orr was coordinating the search for a missing woman from a helicopter when the aircraft struck a power cable near the town of Jensen.
Vernal Police Department is seeking the public’s help after a burglary and theft from the Vernal LDS Temple property. According to police, the grounds maintenance sheds were broken into sometime between Saturday, October 15th and Monday, October 17th.

The Duchesne County Commission is weighing in on the Yellowstone Feeder Canal repair project proposed by the Moon Lake Water Users Association. In a letter signed on Monday and addressing the Bureau of Reclamation office in Provo, the Commissioners state their support of “lining segments of the deteriorated concrete canal (and an earthen embankment section) with a geomembrane liner, covered with at least three inches of shotcrete or concrete.”
A truck and camper both rolled in an accident on Highway 191 in Uintah County on Monday morning. According to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Rex Olsen, an 89-year-old Orem man was driving a 1996 Ford F-250 pulling a camper while traveling south.
Every fall, county Boards of Equalization meet to hear appeals on assessed property values that were mailed out to property owners in July. In Uintah County this fall, 103 of those appeals received an adjustment to their property value for a combined net reduction in value of about $9 million dollars.
The Uintah County Commission approved a construction contract for the Vernal Regional Airport runway project. W.W. Clyde out of Orem was awarded the contract to run from November of this year through 2018.
Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is congratulating two cadets for their recent graduation from the Basic Corrections Officer training. Cadets Bryant Cook and Curtis Murphy received their certificates on October 13th during the POST ceremony in Sandy.

Funding BTA’s Vernal route was a topic at the County/City meeting on Monday at Vernal City Hall. While no final decision was ultimately made during the meeting, a proposal from Councilman Ted Munford was met with general approval.
After a successful first summer, the Roosevelt Aquatic Center remains a staple for local family fun in the Roosevelt community. According to Aquatic Center Director Edwin Butterfield, summer numbers were high and this fall attendance has naturally slowed down but is still great for during the school year.
