A veteran with no ties to the Basin showed a great deal of patriotism and selfless love last week as he personally delivered a battle cross to the mother of Sgt. Daniel Gurr, Vernal’s local hero who lost his life 5 years ago while serving in the war in Afghanistan.

Utah’s Watershed Restoration Initiative has completed projects on over 1,290,000 acres of Utah lands with 257,000 acres in projects currently underway.
Vandals Deface Jensen Fire Station
Vandals left their mark on the Jensen Fire Station late last week. According to Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, they were notified by a call from the public on Friday morning that someone had sprayed graffiti on the Jensen Fire Station sometime around 1:30am Friday morning.
New POST Program Graduates First Class Locally

A missing teenager from Craig has been added to the FBI’s endangered runaway list. 14-year-old Katrina Treacy was reported as missing over a month ago and it was determined that she had run away.
9-year-old Hit by Vehicle; Flown by Medical Helicopter to Wasatch Front Hospital
Tragedy struck over the weekend in Vernal when a 9-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle. According to Vernal City Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell, Vernal PD and emergency personnel responded to a call of a traumatic injury at the Ashley Valley Apartments on 1320 West Main Street at approximately 2:00pm on Sunday afternoon.
CIB Approves Funds on Basin Projects
The Community Impact Board approved funding for several Basin projects during their meeting on Thursday. The Ashley Valley Water and Sewer Improvement District requested funds for system upgrades including a water line in the Rockpoint area and new fire hydrants.
