KNEU 1250TriCounty Health Department announced Thursday that while Daggett County remains in the Low COVID-19 Transmission Level, Uintah and Duchesne Counties have been moved from Moderate to the High Transmission Level.
The Uintah Ute football team is ending the season with an event that will also bring attention to an important cause. Tonight, members of the Uintah Utes will enter Coach Belcher Stadium for a special Friday Night Lights event, wearing special masks to bring attention to the ‘Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’ campaign.
Tonight and tomorrow are the final two nights of the annual Hotel Vernal Haunt charity event, ‘Spirits at the Maine’. The magical and spooky experience is thanks to an amazing team of volunteers that look forward to the Haunt all year.

Roosevelt City issued a press release on Wednesday announcing that Lt. Allan Tucker has been appointed as the Acting Police Chief. On October 24th, Chief Rick Harrison announced his resignation. Harrison had served as the Chief of Roosevelt City Police Department since 2005 and the City expressed their appreciation for his service in their announcement.
As of Wednesday, October 28th, fire restrictions have been lifted within Ashley National Forest. “With the arrival of cold weather, the Ashley National Forest is lifting fire restrictions across the Forest,” shares their announcement. “The fuels across the Forest are still very dry and the Forest is asking everyone to please be careful with campfires and ensure they are completely extinguished prior to leaving them unattended.
Rural child welfare divisions often struggle to maintain and retain staff and an article in the Colorado Sun demonstrates an unfortunate pattern of this in western Colorado. According to the article, Moffat County had 10 people quit between March and November 2019, which was 40% of staff, not including the loss of the previous director and child welfare supervisor.
Halloween might be a little different this year but a local tradition that remains is the annual 4H ‘Trunk or Treat So Kids Can Eat’ food drive in the Uintah Conference Center parking lot. Admission is a donation of non-perishable food and then kids can participate in the fun of a candy filled Trunk or Treat.
The change in weather has been a help with the East Fork and Center Creek Trail Fires in Duchesne County. According to the latest update on Tuesday, temperatures on the fire have been in the minus column and ice and light snow covered the fire area on Tuesday but there remains smoking areas in the Moon Lake and Hells Canyon areas.
Calling young ghosts and ghouls, superheroes and princesses! Against all odds, the Roosevelt City Main Street Trick-or-Treat Halloween Parade is happening and you are invited! This year’s parade is taking place Friday, October 30th. The trick-or-treating will start with the preschoolers at 3pm. .
USU-Uintah Basin has welcomed a record number of Sterling Scholar students this academic year including 9 from Uintah High School, 2 from Union High School, and 1 from Altamont High School. “So many of our Sterling Scholars start their Aggie careers as concurrent enrollment students on one of our two Uintah Basin campuses.
