KNEU 1250It's been over a month now since hospitals and doctors elected to postpone certain procedures and surgeries but it looks like that time is winding down. Uintah Basin Healthcare announced on Monday that all services are now fully operational at The Clinic though telehealth visits still remain available. Urgent Care is now fully operational in both Roosevelt and Vernal and sleep studies have resumed at the UBH Sleep Center.
Ashley Regional Medical Center announced on Tuesday that it will be resuming elective and non-urgent surgeries and procedures on a limited basis. “Resuming these important services is an essential component of meeting our community’s health needs and advancing our mission of Making Communities Healthier,” shares Greg Gardiner, Chief Clinical Officer of Ashley Regional.
Water line and roadwork continue this week on the UDOT Highway 40 construction project in Gusher. The UDOT update this week shares that the speed limit has been reduced to 50 mph through the work zone during construction. “Please be respectful and slow down around crews as they work next to traffic,” shares UDOT.
It has been a difficult time in the world and in our community, and difficult decisions have been made. One such decision is the cancellation of the 2020 Uintah County Fair. Uintah County made the announcement on Monday stating that the decision was made for several reasons.
Utah leaders are meeting this week as they seriously consider downgrading the Utah Leads Together state status from High Risk to Moderate Risk. Utah epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn explained during Monday’s COVID-19 state press conference that while cases continue to go up, the rate of cases is going down.
The National Science Foundation has given a grant to study mercury in the atmosphere and the impact it has on ecosystems and on human health. The grant will involve multiple institutions including Colorado College, University of Colorado, University of Utah, and our very own Utah State University Uintah Basin’s Bingham Research Center.
The high achievements of a Uintah High student are receiving some much deserved recognition. Uintah High School announced last week that Jared Connelly has been selected as one of the semifinalists to advance to the final round of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars competition.

There is one new confirmed case of COVID-19 in Duchesne County. As of the Sunday evening COVID-19 Situational Update on www.tricountyhealth.com, there is now a total of 11 confirmed cases with an overall total of 6 in Uintah County, 5 in Duchesne County, 0 in Daggett County, and 0 with the Ute Indian Tribe.
A man has been charged in Duchesne County’s 8th District Court with repeated lewd acts involving children in Duchesne County. 55-year-old Robert Vincent Zickella was charged last week with three counts of 3rd Degree Felony Lewdness (With Prior Offense) Involving a Child for an incident on April 19th.
USU Uintah Basin is celebrating its largest graduating class to date. The Class of 2020 has 153 graduates made up of students who have earned 67 associate, 55 bachelor’s, 23 master’s degrees, and one graduate certificate.
A traffic jam in Vernal isn’t a common site but was a welcome one on Friday night during the Cruisin’ During COVID event on Highway 40. The event, in its second week, had a huge turnout! “I would estimate several thousand people [participated],” shares Uintah County Travel and Tourism Director Lesha Coltharp.
