‘Lamb Of God’ Performances Touch Many Hearts at Start of Easter Season

Roosevelt was host to a marvelous Easter kick-off experience. The Uintah Basin Interfaith Community productions of ‘Lamb of God’ were held at the Union High School auditorium on Sunday. This sacred work features choir, orchestra, and soloists performing music about the death and resurrection of the Savior Jesus Christ. The special work brought talent from all over the Basin to help share its music and message. The choir had 121 members, including 13 soloists, and the orchestra had 55 musicians.

TODAY: Planned Evacuation Drill at Roosevelt Junior High School

When it comes to the safety of our children the school districts strive to be prepared and ready for whatever may come. Doing so takes practice and the Duchesne County School District wants parents and the public to know that today they will be conducting an evacuation DRILL at the Roosevelt Junior High School. The district has created a communications plan already that involves sending out regular updates to students and parents through both the internal communications network and the district’s Facebook page.

Workforce Services Employment Update

The Department of Workforce Services offered a recent local employment update. Blaine Roberts, DWS Workforce Development Specialist, presented this week at the Vernal Chamber luncheon. Roberts reported that 47 new job openings were listed on Monday in the Vernal area alone. The Census Bureau is among those looking for employees with Census 2020 gathering positions as well as regular long term employment positions with government benefits. The Census Bureau will be in Vernal on March 6th, 13th, and 19th.

DCSD PublicNotice: Dated Special Education Records to be Destroyed

The Duchesne County School District announced that they will be destroying confidential special education records of students born in the year of 1992. “In accordance with federal statutes, each student’s records may be considered ‘no longer needed to provide educational services’ and may be destroyed after the student turns 27 years old ,” shares the District. “Unless otherwise requested by parents, guardians, or former students of legal age, special education records, which meet the prescribed requirements, will be destroyed after March 16th, 2020.”

CORONAVIRUS: What You Need To Know

While there is no need to panic over the CORONAVIRUS, TriCounty Health Department has provided information on their Facebook page of what is helpful to know. The CORONAVIRUS is a new respiratory disease caused by a virus first detected in China in December. It is spread via respiratory droplets produced when a person coughs or sneezes and is shared mainly through close personal contact with another person. The effects of the virus range from mild symptoms to severe illness and death.

The business is a disaster restoration company that specializes in handling all types and sizes of disaster situations, including flood, fire, mold, weather damage, biohazard and more, in a safe and efficient manner.

2nd Annual Adult Pinewood Derby Fundraiser

Do you remember the good old days in Cub Scouts and the excitement of getting the Pinewood Derby block of wood and sculpting the fastest things on the track? Now those 21 and older have a chance to relive the fun and it’s all for charity. The Vernal Elks Lodge will be having their second annual Adult Pinewood Derby on Saturday, March 7th. The cost is $25.00 dollars (and includes the car kit). The funds raised will go to our local Special Olympics. The event will have prizes and trophies. Car check in will be at 3:30pm. March is Colorectal Awareness Month and, if you were born in 1970 or before, it is important that you take note. Uintah Basin Healthcare reminds the Basin that colonoscopies should be done beginning at age 50. Colorectal cancer affects both men and women. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Regular screenings should start at age 50 and be done every 10 years unless you have an increased risk. Through screenings, doctors can find precancerous polyps early. You can then get them removed before they turn into cancer.

Dinosaur National Monument Starting New Social Media Series

Staring up at the night sky can be thrilling, awe inspiring, and a religious experience. While ranger led stargazing programs haven’t started back up quite yet at Dinosaur National Monument, they are talking stars in their new social media series that they are calling #CelestialSunday. Every Sunday on the Monument’s Facebook page, they will post stargazing tips, as well as weekly updates of what can be observed in the night skies in and around Dinosaur. Their first stargazing tip was to turn off the lights! It takes human eyes 30 minutes to fully adjust to dark conditions and any light, from a flashlight to a smartphone, restarts the process.

DWR Launches New Website Highlighting Wildlife Migration

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has launched a new website with valuable information that only a few other states are also offering. The site will offer data from the real-time tracking of wildlife. The Wildlife Migration Initiative program started in 2017 to track and study different wildlife and fish species and Utah is the only state to include fish tracking. Some of the species being tracked include black bears, elk, pronghorns, cougars, razorback sucker, cutthroat trout and boreal toads.
