In 2018, Utah Legislature passed and Governor Herbert signed into law Senate Bill 136, enabling counties in Utah to enact a quarter percent sales tax to fund transportation needs. On Monday, September 9th, the Uintah County Commission adopted an ordinance to enact the tax which will go into effect on January 1st.

A school crossing guard was hit by a teenage driver near Kings Peak Elementary in Roosevelt on Thursday morning. According to a press release from the Roosevelt City Police, a 1997 Mazda sedan driven by a 16-year-old driver failed to yield to the school crossing guard at 300 West 200 North at about 7:50 a.m. on September 12th.

It was a positive outcome for a missing kayaker that failed to meet his party at their rendezvous point on Saturday afternoon at Flaming Gorge’s Firehole Campground. In an effort to encourage residents in Duchesne County to rid the landscape of junk vehicles, the Duchesne County Community Development Department came up with a unique solution: the Duchesne County Junk Vehicle Contest. For every junk vehicle that is hauled away, ten dollars is placed in a prize fund.
Our Uintah County Library is always in pursuit of tools and opportunities to enhance the lives of residents of the Basin. To continue in their goals of offering such opportunities, the library recently announced that they have entered into a partnership with Recorded Books to offer the area a program called Universal Class.
According to the Federal Register the Forest Service is looking to revise the Land Management Plan (Forest Plan) for the Ashley National Forest and are wanting to prepare an environmental impact statement. The reason for the revision, according to the National Forest Management Act, is that forest plan should be revised on a 10 to 15-year cycle and the current one is 30 years old and has been amended 24 times.
