KNEU 1250Ashley National Forest has a message for hunters: please do not park vehicles on roadways. This applies “even if it is a two track road as other vehicles such as our logging trucks may be using the road you are on.” Ashley National Forest shared a photo on their Facebook page showing a vehicle parked in the middle of a road that blocked access for a log truck headed to the forest’s timber sale.
Uintah County is always trying to find ways to innovate economic growth outside the norms that have driven it for the last decade. One such focus is developing the businesses of local community members. To aid in such endeavors, the Uintah County Economic Development group, made up of community leaders as well as businesses and government entities, are looking to establish a small business center.
It was another successful turnout for the Perfect Swing for Scholarships Golf Tournament. Held last week, the event was hosted by USU-Uintah Basin at the Dinaland Golf Course to raise money for scholarships to help the region’s workforce earn college degrees. “We had a great day golfing and networking with important businesses and leaders in the Basin community,” shares associate vice president James Taylor.
Construction will soon slow down traffic in downtown Roosevelt City and all are asked to be alert and careful. The intersection of Highway 40 and 200 East is currently open to all traffic. Starting Monday, September 9th, however, work is scheduled to continue replacing the concrete pavement at the intersection.
Crescent Point Energy announced Tuesday the sale of its Uinta Basin asset in its entirety as well as certain Saskatchewan assets for a total cash consideration of $912 million dollars. “Since we established our transition plan in September 2018, we have meaningfully improved the sustainability of our business model by revising our capital allocation process, lowering our cost structure and strengthening our balance sheet,” shared Craig Bryksa, President and CEO of Crescent Point.
Cases of Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV) continue to pop up in Utah and other states. On Tuesday, the Utah Department of Agriculture acknowledged that another case has been confirmed in the Uintah Basin, this time in Duchesne County.
UDOT construction continues on the east end of Roosevelt and into Gusher. According to this week’s construction update, milling and paving continues heading east on the two-lane section of Highway 40 from 4500 east to the bottom of the hill.
Though the weather might be saying otherwise, summer is over. The Uintah County Library reported that the summer reading program of 2019, A Universe of Stories was a great success. Through all the participants there was 1,625,371 minutes of reading time logged. While that is definitely an impressive achievement, it can act as a goal for the county to beat as the fall reading program begins.
After being rained out at the end of the previous school year, Altamont’s FBLA chapter has decided to reschedule the colors dance. Melanie Brunson, the advisor of the club, is thrilled to be able to have the dance as a six-school, back to school activity for high school students to enjoy. “The dance has always been a hit,” Brunson says. “It’s been able to bring students from everywhere together.” All high school and junior high/middle school students in the Uintah Basin are invited to attend at Altamont High School on September 5th at 6:30 p.m.
Two people were injured in a motorcycle crash on Sunday afternoon in Daggett County. According to Utah Highway Patrol, a man and woman pulled out of a campground near Sheep Creek entering SR-44 shortly after noon when the bike ran off the road to the right a short distance later for an unknown reason. The accident took place near milepost 21.
A fire burning east of Flaming Gorge in Sweetwater County was met with a heavy response on Sunday as the region remains under Red Flag conditions. According to Sweetwater County Fire Warden Mike Bournazian, the ‘Currant Fire’ was first reported at 1:30pm on Sunday in the Currant Creek Ridge area and resources responded immediately from the Rock Spring BLM, Ashley National Forest, Sweetwater County Fire Department, and numerous federally contracted air resources.
Five individuals were involved in an off-road crash in Uintah County on Sunday afternoon. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, the single-vehicle crash happened in the Jensen area about 2 miles north of Highway 40 in the popular off-road area known locally as Honda Hills at about 1pm on September 1st. “The driver of an older model Chevy Blazer was driving up a hill when the SUV's tires lost traction and the vehicle began to slide backward.
