KNEU 1250The Rifle Police Department confirmed that an officer involved shooting took place on Monday. According to the Rifle PD news release, an officer made a vehicle stop on the evening of August 5th on the Colorado River bridge between the I-70 exit and Whiteriver Avenue.
School days are fast approaching! Although the kids might not be ready for it, Boomer Brigade is getting volunteers ready to serve in local classrooms as they strive to increase family involvement in our schools. Research has shown that such involvement helps children do better.
After months of behind the scenes work, it’s official. An agreement is in place and the Hotel Vernal Haunt will scare up funds for local charities for a second year this coming October. “Last year’s Haunt was an overwhelming success,” shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. “The first year event provided spooks to 7,000 visitors and scared up $48,000 to fund local charities.
A Rock Springs man traveling on an ATV was killed in an accident on Highway 40 Sunday morning. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the accident took place at 10:36am when a single male rider of a four wheeler was traveling eastbound on Highway 40 at milepost 38.
Many of the lifeguards that serve at the Roosevelt Aquatic Center are teenagers enjoying their first job. Even though that might be the case, the job of lifeguard is a serious matter. To help illustrate the point, the Roosevelt Aquatic Center had emergency response personnel meet with the lifeguards on Friday, July 26th to work together and practice in-water rescues that could end with ambulance calls.
The Surface Transportation Board announced on Friday, August 2nd, that the comment period for the Draft Scope Study of the proposed Uinta Basin Railway has been extended. The Office of Environmental Analysis received multiple requests for an extension of the comment period and responded by extending the comment period until September 3rd with the note that no further extensions of time will be granted.
Daggett County has issued a ‘Notice of Proposed Tax Increase’ for the Daggett County School District and officials are urging the community to offer their input during an upcoming meeting. According to the Notice, the Daggett County School District is proposing to increase its property tax revenue.

The Vernal Regional Airport continues to hit exciting milestones. Administration recently learned that thanks to the 2018 numbers, the airport officially qualifies for an increase in FAA entitlement funds. For many years, the airport has qualified for $150,000 dollars in these funds annually but thanks to the increase in flights, those FAA entitlement funds will jump to one million dollars starting in October.
Ashley National Forest is asking, once again, that vandals stop shooting road signs within the Forest. “Many of these signs are placed to provide for public safety,” shares the announcement. In the photo provided, it is clear that there is no backstop for the bullet making it a serious hazard as the bullet could travel a long distance and ultimately injure someone.
All those who would like to submit public comment on the proposed Uinta Basin Railway have only a few days left to do so. Starting on July 15th, the Surface Transportation Board’s Office of Environmental Analysis gathered public input in person during 6 meetings over 5 days traveling 1100 miles, making stops in Fort Duchesne, Craig, Price, Roosevelt, Vernal, and ending in downtown Salt Lake City. There was a good mix of opinions shared, according to Tammy Champo, spokeswoman for the 7 County Infrastructure Coalition.
