KNEU 1250Rifle Police Department is using a sad situation to teach a valuable safety lesson to the community. A dog left in a hot car in Garfield County died of heat exhaustion after the owner lost track of time. Rifle PD has a simple message: Leave Your Dogs Safely At Home!
Officers were unable to apprehend the individual behind the wheel of a high speed chase that started in Vernal on July 2nd. Posts began showing up on social media of a high speed chase on Tuesday around 5:00 pm alerting drivers to be safe on the roads. Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Brett Gehring confirmed on Wednesday that there had been a high speed chase.
This year’s Grand Marshals for the Vernal 4th of July Parade are brothers who have lived most of their lives in the Vernal area. Boyd Merrell will be 93-years-old on July 7th and his brother, Dallas Harold Merrell, will be 87-years-old on July 9th. At the age of 18, Boyd was drafted into the Navy on December 12th, 1944, to serve in WWII.
July is the month that brings the firework fun and although there is no restrictions safety is still key. When dealing with sparklers please remember that it burns at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees fahrenheit, the same as a blow torch, so parents be sure to keep an eye on children. Gone But Never Forgotten. Tuesday marked 32 years since Duchesne County Sheriff’s Officer Lt. Gerry L. Ivie was “accidentally shot and killed at a roadblock in Duchesne County. Lt. Ivie was responding to the scene of a rolling roadblock two miles west of Roosevelt where officers had boxed in a vehicle driven by a man threatening to kill his family.
AAA predicts a record-breaking 48.9 million Americans will travel for this Independence Day weekend and safety cannot be understated. After a multi-vehicle collision caused by a drowsy driver sent 3 people to the hospital, the Utah Highway Patrol is asking people to be aware of the signs and effects of driving drowsy.
Residents of Roosevelt City can look forward to an eventful 4th of July all taking place at Constitution Park. The day kicks off with the Redmud Run. Registration starts at 9:30am and the race will begin at 11:30am, a later start so residents can still attend Neola’s parade at 10am and be back to enjoy the mud fun.
A Duchesne County project is one of just ten projects in Utah to be selected to receive a grant through the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART program. The Duchesne County Water Conservancy District, partnered with Bennett Water Association and Dry Gulch Irrigation Company, was awarded $246,600 dollars to make improvements at Bennett Pond.
Multiple Uintah County agencies are wanting residents of the Basin that are 55 years and older to know that there is a resource available to aid in getting back into the workplace. The company is called Easterseals, America’s largest nonprofit health care organization. One program is called Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) which is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The 4th of July is celebrated as the birth of our nation. Locally, the 4th also doubles as the birthday for local celebrity Dippy. For those that don’t know, Dippy represents the original fossils of the Diplodocus that is at the Utah Field House of Natural History.
There’s no need to choose between the fun opportunities offered in Duchesne County on the 4th of July. In order to support the Neola parade that starts at 10am, Roosevelt City has pushed back their start time on the Redmud Run from early morning to 11:30am. Neola’s 4th of July Celebration includes a 5K run, co-ed volleyball tournament, the parade followed by a patriotic program, and the rodeo that night at 7pm.
As summer hits full stride, the events for the Summer Reading Activity are in full swing as well. This week’s activity is a puppet show put on by the Rocky Mountain Puppet Show entitled Space-A-Cade. The puppeteer is Meghan Casey who completed her Advanced Ventriloquism course at the age of six and has been working and playing with puppets since.
