KNEU 1250The Uintah Basin has been dealing with ozone-forming emissions but luckily we have several organizations that are working to solve this problem. Utah State University’s Bingham Research Center has teamed up with several local oil and gas industry partners. A USU press release shares that it has been a voluntary effort of both USU and industry to try to mitigate ozone impacts while minimizing costs to industry.
How do you celebrate 75 years of service to others? By having a day of service. Uintah Basin Healthcare had the first annual service day on Tuesday as the kick off to the 75th anniversary of the health group. The hospital had the goal to see if they could get 75 employees to volunteer their time to the community. The employees stepped up in a big way. 250 of the 700 took action.
The final concert and wrap up of season 3 for the Utah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra has been emotionally charged for many reasons. Seniors Cutler Rust, Lucy Flake, Luna Rosal, Dante Zubel, Abby Nakai, Liberty Bennion, Spencer Embleton, and Zac Carlton played their final concert earlier this month with the group, a concert that was added to the schedule at the request of the seniors as one last hurrah.
Wednesday’s exciting news that the Roosevelt Municipal Airport has been awarded a $9 million dollar grant was no small accomplishment. “This has been a four-to-five year process,” says Roosevelt City Manager Ryan Snow. “We managed to get to the top of Utah’s list for discretionary funding last year.
The spread of quagga and zebra mussels are treated as a serious matter in Utah and the Division of Wildlife Resources wants travelers to know that inspection stations will be open this weekend and anyone with a watercraft are required to stop. A watercraft includes motorboats, sailboats, jet skis, wave runners, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trailers and vehicles that go into the water on a boat ramp, as well as other personal watercraft.
Price is leading the way in enforcing a new Utah law that went into effect this week making possession of gambling machines against the law. There were more than a few eyes rolled and questions asked about the seizure, but as others will point out, the law is simply being enforced.
It was an excellent night of good food, great company, and excellent speakers at the 70th Annual Vernal Chamber of Commerce Meeting on Thursday night at the Uintah Conference Center. The baton of President Michael Fossett will be passed to President elect Signey Smith. Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox spoke to the attendees which was a special treat as he very recently announced his intention to run for Utah Governor 2020.
For those that are planning to spend time in and around Flaming Gorge, stay aware of the construction. The Flaming Gorge Ranger District office will be making additions to the existing main office. That particular construction project will be going until February 2020. Be careful when visiting and while entering through the front door of the offices.
Dinosaur National Monument has introduced a new Facebook series of posts called Messier Mondays. The posts will focus on Charles Messier, a French astronomer from the 1700’s known for the astronomical catalog he put together because of his interests in comets. The Messier Catalogue features many deep sky objects including 110 star clusters and nebulae, which in turn is called Messier Objects.
Aberdeen, Idaho has a population of just around 2,000 people. Even though it is small, the town has invested great sums in a new performance art structure. It is a 396-seat auditorium, a practice gym, and an ag/vo-tech shop. This wonderful new facility is the Aberdeen Performing Arts Center or also known as the Wayne Millett Theater in honor of Wayne Millett, the school district’s performing arts teacher.
This week, 820 professionals gathered for the 2019 Children’s Justice Symposium at Snowbird hosted by the Utah Children’s Justice Center Program. The conference focused on a new national campaign called SHINE that is “designed to help children overcome the effects of abuse [and] make sure each child overcomes shame and stigma,” shares the Utah Attorney General’s Office. “Children who survive abuse deserve to SHINE.”
Uintah High School English teacher Rachelle Durrant has an army in her corner that grows each school year and that army stepped up in a huge way recently to make sure she felt appreciated. Earlier this year, a student nominated Mrs. Durrant for the 2019 Norwegian Cruise Line Giving Joy Contest.
