50 Year Celebration of OARS at Boathouse Tour

For 50 years, OARS (which was formerly known as Hatch River runners) has been running river tours. To celebrate this feat they are taking an idea that they started last year and turning it into a giant celebration called the Boathouse Tour being held at several of their locations including Vernal, Utah. They are describing the celebration as a way “ to pay tribute to thousands of guides and employees, nearly a million guests, countless relationships within each of the communities where we operate, and decades-long partnerships with the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management among others.”

25th Anniversary of Kyle Petty Charity Ride

A special ride across America that benefits children’s charities is traveling through the Uintah Basin this Sunday. The beginning of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America started as a road trip to NASCAR with three friends that grew to 30 riders. Kyle Petty saw something special and developed it to the charity that it is today. It is now in its 25th year and has had more then 8,400 riders that have accumulated 12 million miles and raised over $18.5 million dollars for Victory Junction and other children’s charities.

Rocky Mountain Power Announces Planned Outage to Repair Damage by Vandals

This isn’t the first report of local infrastructure being vandalized but it may be the incident that will ultimately affect the most people. Uintah County Emergency Management shared a message from Rocky Mountain Power on Wednesday stating that there will be a planned power outage that is necessary to complete the replacement of a three pole transmission structure that was vandalized by gun fire

Attorney Releases Report Concerning Tabiona Racism/Fan Conduct Incidents

A report of the investigation into allegations of racism and misconduct that took place during Tabiona High School sporting events has been released by the Duchesne County School District Board of Education. According to the report, the Board of Education retained Ostler Moss & Thompson Attorneys and Counselors at Law, based out of Salt Lake City, to conduct a “neutral and independent” review of the events in question.

Uintah Basin Narcotic Strike Force Makes Multiple Drug Distribution Arrests

After a several months-long operation, the Uintah Basin Narcotic Strike Force made multiple drug distribution arrests last week in the Vernal area. “Those arrested were Donna McLean, Lewis Rivas, Lyle Shane Karren, Shaun McMickell, William Beseler, Nicole Thullen, Harley Harlan, Bryan Black, and Melissa Price. In addition, Casey Neves was booked into jail on multiple arrest warrants, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia,” shares the Vernal PD Media Release.

Passing of HR 1222 A Win for Hunters, Sportsmen, and Wildlife Conservation

The House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Republican and northeastern Utah Representative Rob Bishop released a statement following the passage of H.R. 1222 which amends the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act. “H.R. 1222 provides states with greater flexibility to create safe, quality shooting facilities on public lands,” shares Representative Bishop.

The theme this year is ‘A Universe of Stories’ and officially runs from June 1st to August 3rd. There are several ways to track your reading. TriCounty Health: What Lakes Do You Frequent Most Often?

TriCounty Health Department wants to know what lakes you most frequent in northeastern Utah as they work with the Utah Division of Water Quality to ensure surface water bodies remain safe for recreational use. “Every summer we monitor the bacteria levels in popular lakes in our area,” explains TriCounty Health. “This year we want the public’s help in identifying which lakes are most used for water recreation sports including: swimming, waterskiing, [and] wakeboarding…activities where your head and face are likely to get wet.”

Crude Oil Fire in Uintah County Causes $50,000 in Damages

Fire crews in Uintah County quickly put out a fire that started Tuesday in the afternoon. According to Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, crews from Vernal, Lapoint, and Jensen were all paged to a disposal pit fire on Highway 40 mile marker 128 at about 1:15pm. The fire started from welding that was taking place near the disposal pit, explains Raymond.
