KNEU 1250Fall is nearly upon us which means a favorite local tradition is nearly here. Visitors will travel from miles around to attend Kokanee Salmon Day at Sheep Creek. The annual free event is a favorite for locals with around 400 attendees each year.
The Division of Wildlife Resources will be treating Reader Creek next week as part of an ongoing Cutthroat Trout Restoration project. Reader Creek has experienced dramatic decline in the cutthroat population due to competition and breeding with non-native trout.
The heavy rainfall on Wednesday has prompted the Duchesne County Road Department to close several roads for public safety. Lower Red Creek Road, Sam’s Wash Road, and Strawberry River Road, all south of Highway 40, are closed as of Wednesday night.

Comic conventions or Comic Cons, as they are more commonly referred to, have a growing following around the nation and the Roosevelt Library is hosting their own mini version next month to let locals get their own taste of the experience. The Fandom Event will be held on September 15th at the Grace Event Center in Roosevelt.
Severe thunderstorms pelted northeastern Utah with hail and rain throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening followed by flooding in some areas. According to National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Pringle, winds in the Vernal area were recorded at 59 miles per hour and early reports of hail were as large as 1 inch in diameter though there could have been larger hail as well.
Vernal Police Department has reported on the success so far of their pedestrian safety operation with the first two days of school over. “During the 5 hour operation, officers conducted 37 traffic stops and issued citations to less than half of the violators,” shares Vernal PD. “The majority of the vehicles stopped were given a verbal warning and re-educated regarding a drivers duty when a pedestrian enters the roadway at a crosswalk.”
The Uintah Basin Energy Summit has become a who’s who event in the oil and gas industry and this year’s two day gathering will be no different. “The 2018 Uintah Basin Energy Summit is once again packed with amazing speakers,” shares event organizer and Uintah County Economic Development Director Sylvia Wilkins.

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is trying to help you keep your hard earned money in your own bank account by warning citizens of the latest telephone scam hitting the area hard. Con artists are leaving voicemails asking the recipient to call them back. If the person calls them back they answer the phone very professionally pretending to be the IRS and demanding payment.
It’s every parent’s worst nightmare. On June 13th in Rifle, Colorado, a man attempted to kidnap a young girl from her own home by pulling her through a bedroom window. The girl fought off her attacker and the man ran as the girl’s parents called 9-1-1. The Rifle Police Department have now filed formal charges against the suspect, Ykezio Sullivan, who is awaiting extradition from Idaho.
