KNEU 1250A fire that started on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation on July 21st remains at zero percent containment. The Bear Trap Fire started on a ridge just north of Bear Trap Knoll, west of Big Springs in a very remote area. It was inaccessible by vehicle but helicopters immediately began to work on the fire.
TriCounty Health is interested in the overall well being of residents in the TriCounty Health District and are providing financial health tips for this week’s Give Em’ Health feature. TriCounty Health Director Jordan Mathis explains that financial health and well being are closely linked. Mathis says there are practices anyone can do regardless of income to reduce stress and improve health. First, look at financial health as a long term commitment and remain focused on the overall goals. Second, create a plan for financial health that includes a budget. Third, prioritize the needs from the wants and remain focused on the things that matter. Fourth, avoid consumer debt. Just like people are advised not to overeat, says Mathis, it’s important not to overspend. Fifth, start some form of a savings. Sixth, keep working your financial muscles. The Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra is taking the plunge and expanding beyond string instruments. Organization director Brad Vanfleet made the announcement this week inviting all youth instrumentalists to audition. This season the organization is looking to add all woodwind instruments, brass, and percussion.
As the families affected by the Dollar Ridge Fire work to rebuild their lives, every opportunity for help may be useful. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is sharing the word on one such opportunity. The Utah Environmental Quality Incentives Program through the Natural Resources Conservation Service, may have funds to help private property owners as they deal with damage to their land.
Local Veterans please take note. Utah State Parks is holding a Veterans Appreciation Day this weekend. A ceremony is being held on Saturday, August 11th, at Steinaker State Park. The suspect in a Utah armed robbery was captured in Rock Springs Tuesday morning. According to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a stolen 2018 Chevrolet Traverse with a Utah license plate in the area and the driver was a suspect in an armed robbery.

Roosevelt City is eager to welcome new officers to Roosevelt PD this fall. “We’re very pleased to be adding three new officers with roots in the Uintah Basin,” shares Roosevelt City Manager Ryan Snow.
The dangerous intensity of the Dollar Ridge Fire has passed but crews continue to work on spots of active burning that are on U.S. Forest Service land. According to Incident Commander Mike Bertagnolli, the fire is now considered 90 percent contained which is a downward adjustment of containment percentage.
It’s been a very difficult week for a Roosevelt family who lost all their possessions in a house fire that started Monday morning. According to Roosevelt Fire Chief Lee Rockwood, the fire was called in around 11:30am on a double wide trailer in the neighborhood of 500 East 600 North near East Elementary School in Roosevelt.
The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office had sad news to report in a press release issued on Monday. According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home north of Roosevelt at about 8am on Sunday, August 5th, on a report of an unresponsive child at the residence.
