KNEU 1250The dedication of a high school intern at Ashley Regional Medical Center is appreciated and being recognized. Uintah High School’s Marisa Foote is in her fourth trimester interning in the Radiology Department of Ashley Regional Medical Center. Director of Radiology Jeff Hanberg has been very impressed with Marisa and has appreciated her work-ethic and willingness to learn.
The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office held their annual awards banquet last week. Randy Harding was awarded Citizen of the Year for his heroic efforts that helped save several lives. The Sheriff’s Award was given to Chase Hall and Travis Mold. Patrol Deputy of the Year is Kyle Fuller. Corrections Deputy of the Year is Tyler Conley.
Renovation of the terminal at Vernal Regional Airport will soon be underway. According to airport manager Doug Brown, bids are being accepted on the terminal renovation project until April 3rd with a mandatory pre-bid due Tuesday, March 27th by 11:00am.
The Uintah Athletes of the Week are track team members Kyle Henderson and McKenna Sprouse, nominated by the coaching staff. Kyle Henderson has been consistently one of the top jumpers in the state. He won the triple jump at the indoor olympic oval as well as winning the opening meet in the Long Jump. Kyle is ranked 2nd in the High Jump and 3rd in the Long Jump for 4A. He has worked hard this season and has been a good example of hard work and focus for his team mates. Congratulations Kyle Henderson, Ute Athlete of the Week! McKenna Sprouse is one of the senior leaders on the girls track team. She is starting the season off well, qualifying for the BYU Invitational at the Alpha Invitational. McKenna is always checking on the other girls and giving positive comments. She has had a really good attitude through the hard workout and bad weather so far this season. Congratulations McKenna Sprouse, Ute Athlete of the Week!
It’s possible hunters will have a better chance at drawing a permit to hunt big game this fall, depending on the unit applied for. Division of Wildlife Resources biologists are recommending a permit increase for buck deer, buck pronghorn, bull moose, and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep. As of March 19th, all the big game permit recommendations from the Division of Wildlife Resources should be available.
A bill originally supported by Representative Rob Bishop received his vote Against it after major amendments were made. What ended up as a $1.3 trillion dollar omnibus spending package, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 was voted against by the rest of the Utah House delegation as well.
While Vernal has only been a temporary stop for them, Boutique Airlines is being recognized for providing much needed air service to the Vernal area during a time of limbo. The Vernal Area Chamber’s Public Relations Committee has presented Boutique Airlines with an Appreciation Award for their service of providing daily flights to and from Denver and Salt Lake City for the past two years.
An upcoming Easter activity is health department approved. TriCounty Health’s Women, Infants and Children program, also known as WIC, is adding a twist to the traditional Easter egg hunt by holding its first annual Healthy Easter Egg Hunt next week for kids ages 5 and under.
A local family is giving back after a local non-profit organization helped them through a tragic and painful time last year. On April 4th, 2017, Shawn and Sierra Williams lost their daughter, Burklee Ann, while 30 weeks pregnant. During that difficult time, Brody’s Fund, the non-profit that helps families financially after a miscarriage or stillborn, stepped up to relieve some of the financial stress of their loss.
It’s important that kids know that “Somebunny Cares” about them and the transportation staff of the Uintah School District is doing their part to spread that message. Donations for the “Somebunny Cares” program, which delivers Easter baskets for local kids served through the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, were primarily from the Uintah bus drivers and other staff. Additional donors included Axis Insurance, Wright Orthodontics, Ashley Valley Family Dental, White Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, McDonald’s, and the Uintah Recreation District. The School District’s Transportation Department donated 112 Easter baskets filled with treats to the cause. This is the second year they have hosted the “Somebunny Cares” program which continues to grow. Anyone interested in donating to the program can call 435-781-3180.
Roosevelt Junior High has become a mecca for high competing robotics with a group of 7th grade girls leading the way. 18 students making up 5 teams are traveling to the 2018 VEX Robotics World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky next month and it’s as big of a deal as it sounds. Roosevelt Junior High’s ‘Roughrider Robotics’ had 7 teams that made it to the state finals at Davis High School earlier this month.
Spring clean up is on the minds of many with families wanting to plan around the county clean up days. Uintah County announced this week their free landfill days will be held from April 21st through April 28th. “This gives us a full week and two weekends to get our yards cleaned up and be able to take our trash to the landfill with no cost to the residents,” shares the Uintah County announcement.
