KNEU 1250A team from the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, DCI special agents, and the United States Marshals captured an armed federal fugitive with an extensive history of felony convictions in Rock Springs on Friday.
Many local teachers are known for their commitment in the classroom and attention to students. Principal of Uintah Middle School Christy Nerdin says Bethany Hansen and Jason Pierce are two such teachers that “go beyond the average classroom experience.” Bethany Hansen teaches 8th grade language arts and has implemented a letter exchange between her students and youth in Italy.
The Uintah County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner held on Saturday at the Uintah Conference Center provided the opportunity to hear from many local and state leaders. It also provided a platform for an impressive local 5th grader who believes in the right and duty to vote.
The Hospitality Committee in Uintah County has decided it’s time to recognize the faces of customer service in local business with the creation of the Dino “Soar” Service award. The award will be given monthly to someone in the Hospitality Industry that “Soars” above what is normally seen and the first recipient is more than deserving of the recognition.
The Altamont Longhorn Wrestling team team took home their first 2A State Championship this weekend. Overall, the team scored 244 points, with 14 wrestlers placing. Hunter Webb, Wyatt Jessen, and Russell Mitchell each placed third, with Heston Murdock and Macintyre Thacker placing second.

The Union Cougar Wrestling team finished up their season at the state competition in Provo, Saturday, February 10th. The team claimed fourth overall with many wrestlers placing. Brock and Parker Brinkerhoff both earned sixth place in their weight classes. Loni Lutui took fourth in the 285 weight class and Nolan Bullethead took fourth in the 220 weight class.
A grant through the Governor’s Office of Economic Development is helping local businesses to expand. The Rural Fast Track Grant program offers businesses a state reimbursement on expansion projects for up to a $50,000 dollars of matching funds with the expectation that they will hire one new full time employee.
An accident occurred on Highway 40 near Eagle View Elementary on Tuesday morning when a pickup truck trying to turn east onto Highway 40 pulled out in front of a car. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the car was traveling westbound and the driver of the truck was turning from 2540 West onto the highway when it was hit broadside.
In what amounted to a freak accident, an elk downed a helicopter near Currant Creek Reservoir in Wasatch County on Monday around 4:38pm. The crash occurred just over the Duchesne County line and Fruitland EMS was the first to respond. “We had 3 EMTs respond,” explains UBMC EMS Director Von Johnson. “They checked out the pilot and copilot and they were fine.
After a great season, Uintah Utes Wrestling competed well at state securing a 2nd place team finish. Uintah had a really good year, shares Coach Gregg Stensgard, winning their Region, Division, and Tournament of Champions. They were also undefeated in Duals. Their 2nd place finish at the state tournament had 12 state placers from the Ute team including two state champions, a runner up, and a lot of wrestlers placing fourth through sixth place.
Bald Eagle events are underway throughout the state. Bald eagles fly to Utah in the winter to find food and escape colder conditions farther north, shares the Division of Wildlife Resources.
