KNEU 1250The state tour for Governor Gary Herbert’s 25K Jobs Initiative wrapped up in Uintah and Daggett County on Wednesday. Local business leaders, community members, government officials and resource partners gathered at the Uintah Conference Center to explore methods of bringing jobs to the rural communities of eastern Utah. Lt. Governor Spencer Cox addressed the group prior to a roundtable discussion.
Holly Days is coming up the day after Thanksgiving in Vernal and the event will put a spotlight on some special Holly-Day Heroes. The Holly-Day Heroes the city has in mind include all military, veterans, police, fire, and first responders, among others.
Hunting more elk is on the table along with other proposed changes from the Division of Wildlife Resources for the 2018 Big Game Hunts. What’s being considered? Giving bull elk hunters a chance to hunt all three seasons – which are the archery, rifle, and muzzleloader hunts – on the state’s spike-only and any-bull general elk hunting units.
The former Daggett County Sheriff’s Deputy at the center of the Daggett County Jail scandal has been sentenced to 4 months in jail. 27-year-old Joshua Cox was sentenced on Monday in 3rd District Court for his active role in inmate abuse.
The preliminary election results are in for several Duchesne County municipalities. With nothing on the ballot, Duchesne County did not run any of the municipal elections this year meaning the cities each held their own.
The Enchanted Forest event held in Roosevelt City is always a heartwarming occasion. Vernal City is looking long term and planning for the future as far as road maintenance is concerned. According to Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion, the administration and council discussed a maintenance project they hope to do next year during last week’s City Council meeting.
Preliminary election results are in. Uintah County had a 38.46 percent voter turnout with 5,105 ballots cast out of 13,273 registered voters. Proposition 5 failed in Uintah County with 41.15 percent voting FOR the transportation tax to 58.85 percent voting AGAINST it.
This week community members are celebrating a historic building that has significant meaning for many Basin residents. 20 years ago the renovated Vernal City Tabernacle opened its doors as the newest temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Local members of the Church celebrated the temple opening and 20 years later patrons are remembering the building’s history as the celebration continues.
TriCounty Health Department is focused on the wellbeing of the community as a whole and is providing a unique new option for giving this holiday season. The TriCounty WIC program has coordinated with local businesses to help provide diapers for local infants and young children this holiday season.
Naples Elementary is hoping for a repeat win of a regional contest that awards one school with some big bucks and resources. Schools across the nation celebrate Red Ribbon Week in the fall of every school year to teach youth to live drug free. The National Red Ribbon Week organization awards schools for making it a big affair and Naples Elementary is among select schools in Region 8 with a photo in the contest.
A local business was one of only four businesses in the state to be awarded at the 43rd annual Golden Key Awards held in October. Liquid Nutra Group, located in Naples, won the Small Employer of the Year award for making it a priority to hire individuals with disabilities and help them build autonomy and develop skills.
