An accurate mapping of the Maeser Highway Fire reduced the size estimate to 885 acres, according to the latest update from Utah Fire Information. A Friday night estimate by aircraft mapped the fire at 2500 acres but as the smoke cleared Saturday a more accurate mapping of the fire was possible.
Travel delays can be expected through the Myton Bench construction on Highway 40. Traffic is down to one lane in each direction from 6250 South to Ioka Junction. This allows for crews to work and trucks to enter and exit the construction zone.

The man in custody following a double shooting on Thursday has been identified. 21-year-old Jayson John Dean is a Vernal resident who recently relocated from California. After a long search, the Vernal City Council has approved the hiring of a new City Manager. Quinn Bennion is a native of Vernal that graduated from Uintah High School before going on to school at the University of Kansas.
The EPA announced Tuesday that the deadline to determine non-attainment of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards on ozone will be delayed by one year. The standard is part of the Clean Air Act and in 2015 designations were lowered from 75 part per billion to 70 parts per billion, affecting many areas including the Uintah Basin.
