KNEU 1250Citizens of unincorporated areas of Duchesne County are now allowed to purchase federally-backed flood insurance, an option which was previously only available to citizens of Duchesne City and Myton City.
Daggett County Sheriff Jerry R. Jorgensen has resigned, citing a desire to help the County move forward in the process with the Utah Department of Corrections to return inmates to the Daggett County Jail. A press release from the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office states that Sheriff Jorgensen resigned Sunday, April 23rd.
New data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Utah climbing even higher in national job growth rankings. Utah now ranks Number 1 in both total job growth in the U.S. at 3.2 percent and Number 1 for private sector job growth at 3.5 percent. Unemployment is also low at 3.1 percent.
The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office has put some teeth behind spring cleanup regulations. “Everyone is excited to get out and get things cleaned up but please utilize the proper facilities to discard yard waste and materials,” shares the Sheriff’s Office.

A fishery in the Uintah Basin has big changes ahead as biologists aim at creating the best bluegill fishery in the region. According to the Division of Wildlife Resources, there was a time that Pelican Lake was among the best bluegill fishing waters in the West but the lake’s water quality has lead to the fish’s decline over the years.
Maximum releases continue from Flaming Gorge Reservoir and are anticipated to remain at this level through the remainder of the spring runoff season. According to the Bureau of Reclamation, releases are currently at 8,600 cfs with maximum power plant capacity and two full bypass tubes.
With the snow melted and weather improving it is cleanup time around the Basin. Both Uintah and Duchesne County’s spring clean up is ongoing and will be assisted by free landfill week coming up April 22nd through the 29th.
Sometimes instincts to help have the opposite effect, even in rescuing animals. The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office issued an advisory on Wednesday concerning well-intended people taking sheep dogs from their post while on duty.
