KNEU 1250Plans this week to attack West Nile Virus by air come just in time as there have been more positive tests of West Nile Virus in Uintah County mosquito pools. According to TriCounty Health Representative Jeff Robb, 8 more mosquito pools tested positive for the virus since last week’s trapping in Uintah County including one at the golf course, one in south Jensen, four near Pelican Lake and two in Tridell.

Hunter safety is not just for the youth. The Division of Wildlife Resources is offering safety tips for the upcoming archery hunt that kicks off onAugust 20th. According to DWR Hunter Education Coordinator Kirk Smith, there are reports every year of archery hunters injuring themselves and most accidents are caused by not being safe in tree stands or having arrows out before the hunter is ready to shoot.
After two nights of electroshocking and gathering data on fish, DWR biologists have good news. The fish stocked in Red Fleet Reservoir this year are doing well. Last October, Red Fleet was treated with rotenone to remove illegal walleye that posed a threat to endangered fish that live below the reservoir.

The Uintah Basin Back Country Horsemen annual Children’s Justice Center benefit was a success last weekend. Over 70 people participated in this year’s charity event held at the Lake Mountain trailhead on Mosby Mountain and according to organization board member Gale Robbins, the annual ride has raised well over $100,000 dollars in total donations over the 13 years of the event.
TriCounty Health Department is advising residents to learn about the risk of Hantavirus and how to prevent potential exposure. The warning comes after the death of a Utah County woman to the virus earlier this week, the second Hantavirus caused death in Utah this year.
