KNEU 1250Utah has awarded $3.4 million dollars in grants for workforce development statewide. “It is essential for Utah to build workforce development programs that align with the needs of employers,” says Workforce Director Jon Pierpont. “With these funds we can target specific industries and education programs that directly benefit our labor force and economy.”

A Uintah County man being held on 40 charges related to child pornography could face additional charges. According to court documents, a Vernal City Police Detective found that a Vernal resident was sharing and viewing child pornography pictures and videos
Statements were released yesterday by Representative Rob Bishop, Senator Mike Lee and Governor Gary Herbert following the Energy and Natural Resources field hearing on the potential Bears Ears monument designation. “Having been in San Juan County [Thursday], it is more clear than ever to me that the Public Lands Initiative is the will of the people, not a national monument,” says Representative Bishop.

A new option for hunting elk is available in Utah. The Division of Wildlife Resources is getting the word out: Privatelandsonly permits are intended to push elk off private property and back onto public land, thus making hunting on public land better in the future.

More mosquito pools have tested positive for West Nile Virus in Uintah County. According to TriCounty Health representative Jeramie Tubbs, Uintah County Mosquito Abatement had 4 more mosquito pools test positive for the virus last week; one from the south Jensen trap, two from the Pelican trap and one from the Ouray area.
A Vernal man is facing charges after an investigation revealed his relationship with a 12-year-old girl. Text and facebook messages from August through September of 2015 detailed the sexual relationship between 20-year-old Raymond Lane White and the girl.
Suppression efforts continue on the Bench Fire in Dinosaur National Monument. There has been no significant growth since Sunday and as of Thursday, the fire remained at about 570 acres. According to Monument Chief of Visitor Services Dan Johnson, the interagency fire crews began demobilizing on Wednesday and the remaining interagency fire resources will monitor the fire through Friday.
Weather enthusiasts in the Vernal area will finally have their chance to become an official storm spotter for the National Weather Service. Classes have been offered throughout the region but the Vernal class had been unscheduled and delayed throughout the spring and summer.
