KNEU 1250Despite the snow in the mountains we are in spring and Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery is preparing. The Hatchery announced last week that they received 36,000 pounds of food that will last until the end of May to raise bonneville cutthroat trout. Last weekend 360,000 trout eggs came from Mantua State Hatchery to Jone Hole National Fish Hatchery.
There is plenty of fun to be had around the Uintah Basin for Easter weekend. The 10th annual Neola Community Easter Egg Hunts include a teen flashlight hunt tonight from 8:30 to 10pm and the kids egg hunt on Saturday at 10am SHARP! Bluebell is also having their Easter egg hunt at 10am. The Roosevelt Easter Egg Dive is Saturday at 12:30pm at the Roosevelt Aquatic Center (General Admission Applies).
One of the traditions of the Uintah Basin Relay for Life, the fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, is a cancer Survivor Dinner. Organizers recognize that the disease is continually plaguing new individuals and would like to stay current with survivors so that they can be recognized.
Charges have been filed in an April 7th officer-involved critical incident in Duchesne County. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Codey Dale Arrowchis has been charged in 8th District Court with first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery, second-degree felony aggravated assault producing loss of consciousness, third-degree felony aggravated assault, two counts of misdemeanor domestic violence in the presence of a child, carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and intoxication.
The Friends of the Utah Field House wants to remind the public of another entry to their 2019 Lecture Series. The next entry is a look at the Solar System with NASA Ambassador Thomas Quayle followed by Stargazing. Thomas Quayle primarily works for the Clark Planetarium as an Education Program Specialist.
There will be a planned power outage that will include the following areas: Pelican Lake, Ouray, Avalon and Leota. There should be about 200 people impacted from the outage. It will start today at 10am and should be completed by 1pm.
It takes a lot of work to keep a city functioning and growing. Roosevelt City has been doing both thanks to the efforts of Ryan Snow, City Manager and John Zilles, Financial Director/Assistant City Manager. Through the 2018-2019 fiscal year, Roosevelt applied for over $13 million dollars in grant funding. That is impressive on its own but compared to the fact that the city had a $3.2 million budgeted revenue from sales and property tax makes it that much more amazing.
A Rangely school was placed on lockdown due to a report involving a gun. According to the Rangely Police Department, the Rangely Early Education Center was placed on lockdown for 30 minutes Wednesday morning “due to a report of a male party in the area with a gun.”
A stolen motorcycle from Vernal found in Moffat County has lead to the arrest of a Vernal man. Craig Press reports that the Vernal Police Department contacted an officer in Moffat County to alert them that they were searching for a stolen motorcycle. Pictures of the motorcycle and the VIN were provided.
A Uintah Basin man continues to share his message of inspiration and hope with the world. As a double amputee who sets incredible goals and lives life to the fullest, Sidney Smith is the perfect person to talk to youth about overcoming their challenges and finding their purpose.

It is in that spirit that TriCounty Health Department is holding their Infant Immunization Week to help parents understand the whys and hows to properly immunize infants. This year marks the 25th anniversary for the Vaccines for Children program which provides vaccines for low or no costs for situations when insurances don’t cover vaccinations or they cannot be afforded.
A well known fundraising event, held in local venues throughout the world for the American Cancer Society, is approaching. What started as a surgeon, Dr. Gordon Klatt, walking around a track for 24 hours has turned into a society that is 2nd only to the government for funding cancer research. The Uintah Basin’s Relay for Life won’t be happening until June, but the community is being asked to make plans to help right now.
