KNEU 1250Roosevelt City is now accepting public comments on the proposed 2018-2019 fiscal year budget. The May Roosevelt City Bulletin reports that “highlights from the proposed budget include an anticipated revenue increase of 2.5 percent in most funds, with an anticipated expenditure increase of 1.5 percent.
The Uintah County Commission approved a Resolution Monday authorizing the County to apply for a USDA grant. “We are applying for a USDA Rural Economic Development Grant,” shares Economic Development Director Sylvia Wilkins. “It will be for a feasibility study for a Corn Roller Mill. This study will look at production in the area, if there is a need for this type of facility, locations for a facility, and cost and size.”

A local event that draws ATV enthusiasts to enjoy the Uintah Basin is just around the bend. The 3rd Annual Outlaw ATV Jamboree will be held May 31st through June 2nd with over 12 local guided rides and several self guided rides in the Vernal area.
The weather held out for a great day of fishing on Saturday for the Flaming Gorge Fish Derby. The annual Flaming Gorge Fish Derby is one of the largest freshwater fishing derbies in the USA with up to 400 teams each year competing in multiple categories.

Many breathed a sigh of relief at the announcement on Thursday that Bradley Moore, the man wanted for a shooting in Fort Duchesne, was found and in police custody. Perhaps no one was quite so relieved as the staff and students at Eagle View Elementary who had spent multiple school days at varying levels of lockdown during the massive manhunt.
Local high school students had a fantastic day of learning at the first Earth Observation and GIS day hosted by USU-Uintah Basin. “We appreciate the Quinney College of Natural Resources and the Utah Geographic Information Council for supporting youth outreach in our community,” shares USU-Uintah Basin Executive Director James Taylor.
The hunt is over for the man wanted in the case of a shooting in Fort Duchesne. Early Thursday morning, the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team located Bradley James Moore at a home in Vernal where a standoff ensued.
It was a full house at the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce 69th Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner on Thursday night. The crowd enjoyed the interaction with and speech of Mitt Romney as the keynote speaker for the event.
