Two Arrested In Vernal Following Colorado Hit-And-Run

Colorado State Patrol confirmed the arrest of two men in Vernal, Utah, connected to a fatal hit-and-run that happened in Colorado’s Mesa County in the early morning hours of August 24th. A Denver 7 news report shares that 48-year-old Aaron Mackinnon was taken into custody in Vernal and is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. 44-year-old Rusty Vogt was also arrested and is charged with felony accessory. Mackinnon and Vogt are to be extradited to Mesa County. The crash took place on Highway 139 in which a man was sitting in the northbound lane of the roadway when he was struck and dragged 130 feet. The 35-year-old man was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Colorado State Patrol said the fatal hit-and-run happened around 2:12am on Monday and that the investigation is ongoing. No further details were given as to why the victim was sitting in the roadway.
