KNEU 1250Despite raging winds, no additional fire growth occurred this week on the Maeser Highway Fire. As of Monday, the fire was 90 percent contained and full containment was expected on Tuesday. Conditions in the fire area were reported to be very difficult due to wind gusts sometimes in excess of 40 miles per hour.

An accurate mapping of the Maeser Highway Fire reduced the size estimate to 885 acres, according to the latest update from Utah Fire Information. A Friday night estimate by aircraft mapped the fire at 2500 acres but as the smoke cleared Saturday a more accurate mapping of the fire was possible.
A Maeser subdivision has been evacuated with SR-121 closed due to a fire that started Friday afternoon. According to fire PIO Don Jakes, the Maeser Highway Fire was reported at 1:40pmlocated near the gravel pit off the LaPoint Highway.
