KNEU 1250Two men are in the hospital being treated for gunshot wounds after an incident in Maeser on Thursday morning. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received calls of shots fired at 6:30am near 2500 West and 660 South.
The EPA announced Tuesday that the deadline to determine non-attainment of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards on ozone will be delayed by one year. The standard is part of the Clean Air Act and in 2015 designations were lowered from 75 part per billion to 70 parts per billion, affecting many areas including the Uintah Basin.

The Utah Department of Health has designated Ashley Regional Medical Center as a “Stroke Receiving Facility.” The hospital was visited by the Bureau of EMS and Preparedness on May 18th in order to verify that a proper system was in place to treat stroke patients.
After a long search, the Vernal City Council has approved the hiring of a new City Manager. Quinn Bennion is a native of Vernal that graduated from Uintah High School before going on to school at the University of Kansas.
The man in custody following a double shooting on Thursday has been identified. 21-year-old Jayson John Dean is a Vernal resident who recently relocated from California. He is being held on two counts of attempted homicide. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received calls of shots fired at 6:30am on Thursday at a residence located at 666 South 2500 West.

Departments and committees have been hard at work as the Fiscal Year 2018 budget adoption approaches for local governments. Vernal City has held multiple budget workshops and hearings in recent weeks as they whittle down the budget to match revenues. City Manager Ken Bassett communicated clearly that most revenue for the city is from sales tax which is down significantly making it necessary to tighten belts and not have any major capital expenditures.

The moving parts of the Stonegate sewer project have finally aligned and plans for construction are moving forward. The project is funded through the Community Impact Board and Department of Environmental Quality in the form of $4 million dollars in grant funding and $1.6 million dollars in a zero percent interest loan.
A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a man wanted for murder. The Rifle Police Department issued the call for help this week as they search for Michael Francis Montgomery who is wanted for the murder of Christopher Gallegos.
