Tour of Utah Considering Basin Stop

Utah’s premier racing event may make a stop in the Uintah Basin during the 2017 event. According to Uintah County Commissioner Bill Stringer, Tour of Utah is considering routes that would include eastern Utah roads after organizers were encouraged to check out what the Basin has to offer.

The BIA Forest and Wildland Fire – Uintah & Ouray Agency worked over the weekend on the Mud Springs Fire caused by lightning strike on Saturday. The Uintah and Ouray Agency reported that they experienced no control problems and no structures were threatened.

Bid Awarded on Ashley Valley Flood Control Project

The low bid was awarded on the Ashley Valley Flood Control project during Monday’s Uintah County Commission meeting. Jones Demille/Sunrise Engineering received the bid at $49,800. The project is a revisit of the original Ashley Valley Flood Plan and will identify specific areas that are at risk of flooding.

Charges Filed Against Burglary Suspect

Charges have formally been filed against a Craig man suspected in a string of area burglaries. 37-year-old Jason Tracy was arrested last July after multiple stolen items were found on his property. Charges against Tracy include four counts of burglary, two counts of criminal mischief, five counts of motor vehicle theft, four counts of criminal trespassing, three counts of theft less than $2,000 and three counts of theft of less than $20,000.

State Veterinarian Weighs in on West Nile Virus

The State Veterinarian is urging vaccination after cases of West Nile Virus in Uintah County horses were confirmed last week. According to a release from the Utah Department of Agriculture, 80 percent of cases in horses occur in August and September each year and all Utah horse owners are advised to vaccinate their horses.

In the midst of the fun, the Monument issued a timely warning stating that Dinosaur’s Fire Crew has responded to multiple incidents of fires left unattended this year.

Falling Rock Fire

Crews are hard at work on a fire burning in the High Uinta Wilderness on the Ashley National Forest. The Falling Rock Fire, only accessible by foot, was first reported one week ago and has continued burning in subalpine fir and down timber approximately eleven miles north of the Rock Creek trailhead and one mile north west of Squaw Basin.
