Ashley National Forest has announced plans for road work in September and October. Work is scheduled for the Blind Stream Road(Forest Service Road 135) from September 7th through the 12th.

State Education Initiative Announced at Energy Summit
A state education initiative was announced for the first time during the Uintah Basin Energy Summit on Wednesday. The Utah Energy and Minerals Education Initiative features an online hub for K through 12 curriculum as well as higher education scholarships, research funding and annual events.

Vernal Man Who Made Bomb Threat Pleads Guilty to Lesser Charges
A Vernal man who threatened to use a bomb at a local business pleaded guilty of lesser charges this week in 8th District Court. According to court documents, 38-year-old Joel Micah Lyda had gone into a local establishment and told an acquaintance that he was upset about a recent arrest and based on the outcome of that case he was planning to make a bomb in order to “get even”.
Governor Herbert Praises Basin during Uintah Basin Energy Summit
Governor Gary Herbert was among the opening speakers of the Uintah Basin Energy Summit that kicked off Wednesday at the Uintah Conference Center. In his remarks, Governor Herbert stated that energy resources in the Uintah Basin have as much potential as “anywhere in North America.”

Tour of Utah Considering Basin Stop
Utah’s premier racing event may make a stop in the Uintah Basin during the 2017 event. According to Uintah County Commissioner Bill Stringer, Tour of Utah is considering routes that would include eastern Utah roads after organizers were encouraged to check out what the Basin has to offer.
Cancer Support Group Aims at Healing Beyond the Treatment
When Dinah Peltier was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, life changed forever. Dinah experienced an outpouring of support from friends, family and support groups in Provo where she was receiving treatment in early 2015, so much so that she remembers that time as difficult but strengthening. Her radiation treatment a success, Dinah returned home ready for the future and not prepared for a new kind of pain.

DWR Recommending Changes to Bait Fishing
The Division of Wildlife Resources is inviting the public to get involved as changes are being considered to fishing rules for 2017 and 2018. Public meetings are scheduled and anglers are urged to attend as officials discuss whether or not to allow anglers to use corn for bait.
Steinaker Piping Project Underway; Meeting Resistance
After years of public process and collaboration, work began this month on a project aimed to pipe the lower 3 and a half miles of the Steinaker Service Canal. The project, consisting of installing 12- to 63-inch high-density polyethylene pipe, will make connections between existing water delivery points and should be complete sometime in December.
