In order to lighten the mood, Uintah Basin Healthcare is reminding the public of a fun little celebration that they look forward to. Each year the Uintah Basin Medical Center likes to give the first baby of the New Year born at the hospital (and their family) a wonderful gift basket.
The Uintah Basin is filled with personal stories of how Uintah Basin Technical College has helped individuals find a way to provide for themselves while sharing their skills. Last week was UBTech Giving Week, an event to raise money for scholarships at UBTech. To put it in perspective, UBTech explained that every $10 donated equals five hours of instruction for a student.
The Shop With A Cop program is a charitable cause with a special purpose and local agencies enjoy participating each year. Roosevelt’s Shop With A Cop event was held on Saturday at Stewart’s Marketplace in Roosevelt. Christmas cheer was spread to about 50 children in the community as law enforcement officers and first responders spent their morning making Christmas magic and helping the kids pick out Christmas gifts.
Ouray National Wildlife Refuge will be holding a Christmas Bird Count on Saturday, December 19th from 8am to 5pm. Counting birds at Christmas time is a nationwide event that has been around for over a hundred years. It was started by ornithologist Frank M. Chapman as a “Christmas Bird Census” to replace what hunters called the Christmas “Side Hunt.”

To aid families in the Uintah Basin to get in the Christmas spirit, the Uintah County Library has officially started the voting for their Christmas Tree Decorating Contest. Trees were entered in one of three categories, either Traditional, Themed, or Crafted.
Uintah County now has confirmed cases of RHDV-2, Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease, and here is what hunters need to know. “Unfortunately, it is difficult — if not impossible — to control the disease once it's established in the wild,” shares the Division of Wildlife Resources.

Valerie Peck, 40, has been booked into the Uintah County Jail for investigation of aggravated murder and child abuse in connection with the shooting death of her 2-year-old son.
The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release concerning a shooting in Uintah County that left a 3-year-old dead and a woman seriously injured on Monday. On December 14th, at 2:25 p.m. sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the area of Fantasy Canyon in central Uintah County.
A 20-year-old Moffat County man has been charged after crashing his vehicle early Sunday morning while impaired. Dillon Burch was at the wheel of a Dodge Ram at 2:30am traveling on Moffat County Road 31 when the accident occurred. Colorado State Patrol reports that alcohol and speed are both considered contributors to the crash.
TriCounty Health reported Monday that total COVID-19 confirmed positive cases in the tri-county area is 1,946, an increase of 90 since Friday, December 11th. There has been 12 deaths from COVID-19 to date locally and 113 hospitalizations. Total active cases in the tri-county area is 621.
