KNEU 1250The stamp of approval has been given by a Utah legislative committee to draft a bill that seeks to streamline the federal process for changing geographic names in Utah that contain language derogatory to American Indians. Currently there is not a template or an outline of clear instructions that allows changes to geographic features.
The Parade of Lights has always been a wonderful part of the Holly Days experience in Vernal. The Vernal Chamber of Commerce is wanting to make this year's parade bigger and better than ever, but it needs the help of creative community members. A 22 year-old Myton man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a tip led law enforcement to a stolen vehicle in Ballard. On Wednesday, law enforcement received a tip that a vehicle stolen last week was parked at a Ballard hotel.
The Uintah Ute football season is officially over following team testing on Tuesday. “On Tuesday, October 20th, the Uintah High School football team met the criteria for a COVID-19 outbreak, based on the results of subsequent testing of players and coaches,” shares the announcement from Uintah School District.

The Hotel Vernal Haunt will kickstart this year’s spooky event by having a Patriotic Program this Thursday. Being held at Remember the Maine Park, this spectacular program will feature the volunteers who painted the flag on the rock in 1997. The night will feature the stories of the history of the flag on the cliff and the flag on the rock.
There has been a large increase in opioid drug misuse in the US since 2000. Utah has been ranked 5th in the nation for overdose deaths, outpacing deaths due to firearms, falls, and motor vehicle crashes. As always, local agencies are participating in the National Drug Take Back Day providing the perfect opportunity to safely dispose of unused pills or patches.
Earth Science Week might have snuck by us last week but Dinosaur National Monument is sharing their collection with the public virtually to keep the fun going. A few fun things include a link to search a geologic map of the state (or any state), a science of rocks worksheet, a link to view satellite images using Landsat, and several videos that the park has entitled “What’s in the Museum Collections?”
