KNEU 1250Most would agree, a new library in Roosevelt is long overdue making it especially exciting as the project moves forward. Duchesne County Library Director Daniel Mauchley explains that the new library will have a community center focus. “The current library is less than 5,000 square feet,” shares Mauchley.
Fall may not be the season you’d expect to hear a life jacket safety message but state park officials have good reason for sharing. Around 50 percent of cold water boating accidents that result in water exposure are fatal. “Cold water can turn a seemingly fine situation into a disaster,” Utah State Parks Boating Program Coordinator Ty Hunter shares.
8 nights of scares for charity are coming up but at a new location this year. The first two years of Hotel Vernal Haunt were a great success with over 6,000 visitors during its 2019 run which raised $60,000 dollars for local charities. That was up from the amazing first year which raised $48,000 dollars.

Thankfully all got out safely from a house fire that occurred Wednesday in Vernal. According to Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, a structure fire was reported on Cedar Street. Vernal Fire Department arrived around 5:00 pm and the back porch was in flames with the fire extending into the back roof. Everyone in the home had made it out safely and no injuries were reported, shares Raymond.
Uintah High School announced Wednesday that they have adopted the bear as the school’s spirit animal. This decision was made along with the advice and consent of the Ute Indian Tribe Business Committee. “Student leaders met with the Business Committee on October 5th to request the use of the bear as a costumed mascot for the school,” shares the District announcement.
The COVID-19 Count on TriCountyHealth.com reported on Wednesday that there are 42 Active Cases of COVID-19 in Uintah County, 19 Active Cases in Duchesne County, and 6 Active Cases reported by the Ute Tribe, for a total of 65 Active Cases in the TriCounty Health District.
Vernal City Police Department has a reminder for residents as the seasons will soon be changing. “Winter weather is just around the corner, and this means we need to prepare ourselves,” shares Vernal PD. “If you have unused vehicles, disabled vehicles, or vehicles that have not been moved in a while, those vehicles need to be removed from the City Streets so that plows can be effective.”
Having the 2020 Election as Vote By Mail has some people nervous, especially after reports like one this week out of Grand Junction of a stack of ballots found scattered on the side of the road. Thankfully there have been no such reports locally and officials are working hard to ensure the election is handled properly.

DWR Regional Conservation Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer-Selby emphasizes the following: Make sure you wear your hunter orange. Make sure to read the instructions and attach your tag properly by detaching it from the permit and notching the month, date and sex of the animal.
Governor Herbert announced Tuesday that the state has dropped the color coded scale guiding COVID-19 response and have adopted instead a ‘COVID-19 Transmission Index’ that categorizes counties by transmission levels. Based on this new index, Uintah County is categorized at the ‘Moderate Level of Transmission’ while Duchesne and Daggett County are at the ‘Low Level of Transmission’.
