For the past five years the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has been testing waterbodies for harmful algal blooms but due to state budget uncertainty the program funding was cut and monitoring was put on hold.
Thursday saw the biggest single day jump of COVID-19 cases reported in the TriCounty Health District. The Thursday COVID-19 Situational Update on www.tricountyhealth.com shows that the total of confirmed cases for the entire TriCounty Health District went from 52 on Wednesday to 62 on Thursday.
The Uintah School District has provided their Draft Reopening Plan Executive Summary for the public to review and offer their feedback on. In a Thursday press release, the District shared that the plan was developed by a COVID-19 Task Force made of numerous staff and community members.
Duchesne County Fire Marshal Mike Lefler issued a news release on Wednesday announcing that construction is underway on the Dollar Ridge Fire Emergency Watershed Protection Project. The project is taking place in the Strawberry River and Timber Canyon areas to repair damage caused by the Dollar Ridge Fire and the flash floods that followed.
Fireworks have been the cause of multiple fires over the last week, primarily over the holiday weekend and all are urged to use extreme caution to avoid human caused wildfires.
Even though Roosevelt City is not planning to do their UBIC- Uintah Basin in Celebration summer festival, that is not stopping some of the fun from moving forward. The Uintah School Board met Wednesday night in a public meeting where the community got its first glimpse of the proposed school reopening plans. The Board had received the full copy of the plan just 24 hours before the meeting and many in the public attended to see for themselves the proposed plan and offer their input in person.
After serving as interim commissioner of higher education for the last year, Dave Woolstenhulme was appointed to the position full time. The newly appointed 18-member Utah Board of Higher Education approved the appointment during its inaugural meeting on July 1st.
The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office released an update on the Streeter Fire. The main news is that though there is still no containment estimate, there has been minimal fire growth.
