KNEU 1250The TriCounty Health Situational Update report on Wednesday morning showed an additional case of COVID-19 in Duchesne County bringing the total to 4 in Duchesne County, 6 in Uintah County, and 0 in Daggett County. TriCounty Health Department also announced Wednesday morning that free COVID-19 drive-through testing will be available starting Thursday, April 16th.
Governor Gary Herbert announced Tuesday that Utah K-12 public schools will finish the current school year as home based learning. Governor Herbert stated that after consulting at length with stakeholders they came to the conclusion that this is not the time to have schools back open and having crowded rooms of young people as they continue efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19.
The Uintah Basin will soon have a drive-through COVID-19 testing location after the state announced on Monday plans to increase testing sites and allow more people with milder symptoms to be tested. During Monday’s press conference, state Epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn announced that there has been an increase in available tests and there is now unused testing capacity.
A hard working Rangely PD officer will soon be suited in safer gear. The Rangely Police Department shared on Tuesday that their K9 officer ‘Eiko’ will be receiving a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
After a successful week 1, the Rotary Club of Vernal is inviting new entries for week 2 of their Shop Local & Win! contest. Using their own funds, the Rotary Club is purchasing $1000 dollars in gift certificates each week for 8 weeks from local businesses and those gift certificates become the prizes in the contest that encourages the community to shop local.
COVID-19 has caused the delay or cancellation of many local events but for now the annual Outlaw ATV Jamboree is not one of them. The event is still scheduled to take place on May 28th through the 30th. “If we have to reschedule due to COVID-19 we will notify each registered rider by phone and email,” shares their recent announcement.
The public’s help is being requested in the search for a man last seen camping in the Brown’s Park area of Daggett County earlier this month.

The state of Utah announced Monday that the wireless emergency alert for motorists entering Utah has been cancelled and they extended an apology to areas of the state, including the Uintah Basin, where the alerts did not work as intended. Motorists will still be informed of the opportunity to fill out the travel declaration as they enter the state by certain roadways but it will be through signage on the roads directing them to entry.utah.gov rather than a wireless alert.
Recycling is a worthwhile effort but for the time being, Uintah County’s program is unavailable and the community is asked to please stop piling their recycling items at the drop off locations. The local recycling program is run by the Uintah School District’s Can Do Crew. The District announced the program’s temporary closure on April 2nd for the safety of the program staff.
Ashley Regional Medical Center announced on Monday that a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has been appointed for the organization. According to their Monday press release, new CEO Wesley Taylor comes to ARMC from Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City, Arizona where Taylor has served as Chief Operating Officer since 2017.
The Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards announced their final list of nominations for the state awards that will still take place this spring. Shrek the Musical is a finalist for Best Musical and received nominations for Best Set Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Technical Crew, and Best Orchestra.
