KNEU 1250Precautions are being taken after an alleged student’s threat to bring a gun to Union High School on Wednesday. According to an announcement from the Duchesne County School District, district officials were made aware of the possible threat early Wednesday morning.
The CEO of Ute Tribal Enterprises, Valentina Sireech, is featured in this week’s issue of Native Business Magazine as being among the Top 30 CEOs in Indian Country. The article highlights executives “who are leading Tribal Nations and enterprises to greatness” and shares their stories and leadership tips and practices. A change in leadership is in store for the Uintah County Emergency Management Department. Tal Ehlers has served as the Uintah County Emergency Manager for nearly 8 ½ years and at the end of this month is moving on to a new opportunity on the Wasatch Front. Uintah County is still working out their plans to fill the position.
Three Utah cougar kittens with bright blue eyes recently made an epic journey from the mountains of the High Uintas to a zoo in New York state and the Division of Wildlife Resources is sharing their story in an adorable video. It all started when a concerned citizen recently called the DWR to report finding three cougar kittens alone on the south slope of the Uinta Mountains.
Well deserved awards were presented at the Vernal Chamber luncheon on Tuesday. The Public Relations Committee presented Nashelle and Daniel Jackson of Vernal Theatre: LIVE with the Business of the Month Award. “Supporting Vernal Theatre: LIVE is to support a revitalization and renewal of downtown Vernal,” shares the Vernal Chamber.
In trying to keep their residents informed and educated Roosevelt City recently explained why the city chip seals the roads. It comes down to two basic needs. First chip sealing is cheaper. It costs $30,000 to $40,000 dollars to chip seal one mile of road in comparison to the $1.4 million dollars it would cost to do one mile of new road.
The flu season usually runs from October through May. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone who is 6 months or older get a flu vaccine every year.
Moon Lake Electric Association is the latest to warn community members of ongoing phone scams. There has been “an increase in ‘robo-calls’ where scammers leave urgent callback requests through the phone telling Moon Lake members to call back to settle their power bill. These fake calls generally claim to be the last warning before your power will be shut off.
The Basin is still recovering from the Dollar Ridge Fire that has left a very literal scar across 68,000 acres of the landscape. One of the lesser known scars is the fact that it severely damaged the Strawberry River fishery.
Construction on Highway 40 in Roosevelt is wrapping up. UDOT shared on Monday that the paving is complete from the west end of Roosevelt, through town on Main Street, and eastward to Gusher. With the project near completion, crews will finish work on manholes, signs, grinding, and striping over the next two weeks.
The Uintah/Daggett Children’s Justice Center wants to remind the Basin that October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We might not think it but domestic violence does exist in our community. You might know a survivor or you might be one yourself.
Getting outside and moving can make a big difference for the health of our children. Especially if they can get in the habit early in their life. To help encourage the kids Uintah Basin Healthcare partnered with Centennial Elementary to have a Move-a-thon. The Move-a-thon is a healthy fundraiser that helps get kids moving by collecting pledges for each 30 minutes they completed during September 27th through October 6th.
