Highway 40 Closed

Highway 40 is closed between mileposts 42 and 60 near Strawberry Reservoir due to a serious accident. UDOT is advising travelers to use an alternate route and check the UDOT Traffic app or website for updates. There has been no official estimate released on how long it will be closed. Roads through Wasatch County at Strawberry Reservoir and partly into the west end of Duchesne County have been snow covered and icy. All are urged to use caution as they travel in the winter conditions.

Charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor Against Duchesne County Man Dropped

Charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor against a Duchesne County School District employee have been dropped. Charges were filed last year on May 4th against 49-year-old Darin Ace Thomas including two 1st Degree Felony charges of Criminal Conspiracy, two 3rd Degree Felony charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, one 3rd Degree Felony charge of Criminal Conspiracy, and one Misdemeanor charge of Sexual Solicitation.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Roosevelt Baptist Church. A viewing will be held from 11:30 – 12:45. Burial in the Roosevelt Memorial Park with military honors presented by the Roosevelt American Legion Post #64, the Utah National Guard and the Patriot Guard Riders.

A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday evening from 6-8PM and Saturday 9:45-10:45AM all at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Neola Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 11 and The Patriot Guard Riders of Utah.

Be Aware: January Is Radon Action Month

Utah Department of Environmental Quality wants Uintah Basin residents to be aware that January is National Radon Action Month. Radon is formed when uranium breaks down into radium and then decays into radon gas. Ideally, circumstances would have radon gas diluted as it moves through the soil into the atmosphere with little risk to human health.

A new year brings new changes. The Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce is helping businesses to understand how the Utah Medical Cannabis Act (the Act) that passed on December 3. 2018 will affect the workplace. According to Jeff Holdsworth of the Employers Council, although the legislature has approved the Act, it hasn’t clarified specifically what employers can or can’t do.
