KNEU 1250It’s a case of theft from the Sweetwater County range facility. The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on the theft of a large amount of expended rifle and pistol cartridge cases.
If the Pine Ridge Fire is any indication, we may be moving into a dangerous fire season. A meeting scheduled for tonight will not only provide an update on the Pine Ridge Fire and information on campgrounds in Ashley National Forest, but will also offer information on how people can make their private lands fire wise, including how to handle large trees and overgrown areas, among other tips.

Wind is fueling another fire in Dry Fork Canyon that started Friday afternoon. According to BLM representative Kelsey Birchell, the Dry Fork Settlement Fire is 60 acres and the cause is unknown.
More construction is starting up in Roosevelt City. Burdick Materials has announced construction on Lagoon Street starting on Monday, June 4th. Crews will be chipping Lagoon Street starting at 100 East and continuing to 1500 East.
Community members attended the Uintah School District budget hearing on Wednesday, May 30th, at the Vernal Middle School Auditorium to share their concerns about spending and the budget. On May 9th, the school board unanimously approved a $6 million dollar joint capital project to update the high school auditorium as well as add turf to certain athletic fields.
Among the services provided by TriCounty Health Department is the testing of water samples by their Environmental Lab. Representative Eric Larson explains the different forms of testing performed. Every public water system has to take a certain number of routine samples each month to check for bacteria in Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah Counties.
Rick Harrison visited the KVEL studio this week for an interview on the Meet the Candidate Forum. Harrison is running for Duchesne County Sheriff. He is currently the Police Chief for the Roosevelt City Police Department and has served in several supervisor positions.
This summer and fall, Steinaker Reservoir north of Vernal will be reduced to a ‘mud puddle’ as important repairs are made to its dam, shares the Division of Wildlife Resources. Any fish not caught and removed will likely be lost and in an effort to save as many bluegill as possible, the DWR is asking for the help of any and all anglers.

Roosevelt Police were able to locate a burglary suspect on Tuesday with the help of the public. According to Roosevelt City Police Chief Rick Harrison, police were called to a burglary at Smoker Mania at 50 South 200 East in Roosevelt at about 5:50am on May 29th.
The Duchesne County Planning Commission is meeting next week as Ordinance 18-365 continues to be explored. The proposed ordinance would establish standards and procedures for wind and solar energy generation facilities in the county.
