KNEU 1250Ashley Elementary decided this Christmas to find a way to give back and help others in need. Every year, Ashley Elementary has been the recipient of four to five Walmart gift cards through the KSL Quarters For Christmas program to be given to students and their families in need of shoes, clothes and winter coats.
They’ve done it again! Naples Elementary is the Region 8 winner of the National Red Ribbon Week photo contest. The school won the award last year as well, an award which comes with cash and some bling for the school.
New opportunities are in store for hunting deer and elk in Utah in 2018. The Utah Wildlife Board has approved the following. The rifle buck deer hunt will now be split into two hunts – an early season and a regular season hunt. Those who buy a multi-season elk hunting permit can hunt all three seasons on Utah’s spike-only and any-bull general elk hunting units.
A local highway patrol Sergeant is doing her part to help homeless Utahns under the Operation Rio Grande umbrella. Sgt. Kellie Oaks has been taking shifts working weekends at Operation Rio Grande which has been underway for several months targeting the problem of homelessness and crime in the Pioneer Park area of downtown Salt Lake City.
While there is plenty of support for President Trump’s announcement to reduce the size of the Bear Ears National Monument, the Ute Tribe is not among the supporters. The Ute Tribe announced in a press release dated December 4th that the Tribe “will be filing a lawsuit against President Trump, Secretary Zinke, and others in the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia to hold them accountable for their actions in this matter.”
The family and friends of a man missing since September are waiting to hear if a body discovered in the White River on November 30th is their missing loved one. According to the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, 66-year-old Peter Christian Ruffner had not been seen since Friday, September 29th, and help from the Colorado Bureau of Investigations was requested.
A Salt Lake man has been charged with felony mail theft in Duchesne County. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, 51-year-old Russell Curtis Young is facing the second degree felony for allegedly stealing two voided checks from a Duchesne County man’s mailbox in August.
The TriCounty Health Department is providing the community with information on Hepatitis A and how to prevent exposure and infection. While the state health department has announced that there is an outbreak in the state, TriCounty Health Director Jordan Mathis says there are no confirmed cases in the TriCounty Health District at this time.
The Roosevelt City State Street project has wrapped up for the winter. While the original goal was to finish the project in 2017, Burdick Materials explained that they would work into November paving and striping State Street on the south end but the completion of the project would be delayed in order to guarantee the high quality of work they strive for.
Local high school students are provided with countless educational opportunities many of which are thanks to the school districts partnerships with USU and UBTech.

An original Christmas carol, written for 8 part choir and 30 part orchestra composed by young local musician Dante Zubel, will be making its world debut at the Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus Christmas concerts this Saturday.
