The Naples City Council is on board with this new reputation and in their latest City Council meeting approved firework events once again for the 24th of July and New Year’s Eve in 2018.
The Uintah Basin Water Summit welcomed state and local leaders to the Grace Event Center in Roosevelt on Wednesday. Many speakers addressed water issues in the Basin and of course the low snowpack was a topic of concern.
Before it was a Hollywood hit on the big screen, Steel Magnolias was written for the stage as a brother’s attempt to emotionally process the loss of his sister, Susan Robinson, who died at age 33 in 1985 after a lifetime of battling diabetes.
With the odd January weather, officials continue to plan on an upcoming Steinaker ice fishing event but are leaving room for the possibility it may need postponed. The 8th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament is scheduled to be held at Steinaker State Park on February 3rd.

January is National Radon Action Month and TriCounty Health Department is encouraging residents to test their home for radon levels. Radon is a colorless, odorless, naturally occurring toxic gas that is emitted from minerals in the ground.
Vernal Chamber luncheon didn’t disappoint on Tuesday thanks to a presentation by Simplot blasting supervisor Cassidy McAllister. Simplot Phosphates, LLC not only channels around $38 million dollars into the Vernal and Rock Springs economies through employee salaries, it is also a major supporter of community events like Holly Days and Trees for Charity.
Plans on the Uintah County Trails Master Plan continues forward and a public meeting is scheduled in the coming weeks to gather further input from the public. Last spring, the trails committee held several public hearings that contributed to the work that has been done in the many months since.
