KNEU 1250Could it be Denver, Salt Lake City, somewhere in between, or somewhere else altogether? The latest talk from the Department of the Interior is that there is serious consideration to move the headquarters for the BLM out west with Salt Lake City and Denver listed as viable contenders.
Senator Kevin Van Tassell announced this week that he will not seek re-election at the end of his term. In a letter to fellow senators he stated, “It has been my honor to serve as the Senator for District 26. I have truly enjoyed the opportunity to associate with so many wonderful people, work on different projects and see the Government work on a State Level.
It’s been a year of growth at the Uintah County Jail as additional state contracts have been taken on. According to Sheriff Vance Norton, it has also been a year of expanding program offerings to inmates.
Just ask Utah skiers if it’s been a dry year so far and their frustration will likely show through. The two weeks of holiday celebrations during this time of year often means extra hours put in by local law enforcement. Thankfully, local agencies report that the days surrounding the Christmas holiday were mild and without tragedy.

The community rallies every year to help those less fortunate during the Christmas season and this year was no exception. Santa’s Community Effort in the Vernal area was able to provide gifts for 167 families, a total of 481 children, shares effort coordinator Brian Gorum. The Duchesne County Old Fashioned Christmas effort also had great support, providing goods and gifts to over 80 families.
Naples City is ringing in 2018 in style and are inviting the entire Basin community to join them. Mayor Dean Baker had been contacted by a group in July about teaming up for a fireworks show and as a result the city hosted fireworks on the 24th of July.
Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office has closed the missing person case for Rangely resident Peter Ruffner after announcing his cause of death on Tuesday. According to the Sheriff’s Office, forensic results showed that the cause of death was drowning with contributors to death being methamphetamine and alcohol intoxication.
Who could forget the day in June of 2014 when a blue 10 ton tractor broke halfway through the Browns Park Swinging Bridge and sat suspended over the Green River? After several years of sorting out funding, the bridge is scheduled for repairs this spring and future maintenance was a topic at the Moffat County Commission meeting last week.
