Uintah School District’s Students of the Month were honored at the December 13th school board meeting. All 11 campuses in the district were represented during the special presentation.

Roosevelt Rocks! And the city has the actual rocks to prove it! About a year ago, Roosevelt citizen Sheri Poulson, inspired by painted rocks she had seen in Texas, decided to start a rock painting and hiding group in the Roosevelt area.
A Craig man is wanted on a bond violation and the public is asked to keep their eye out. 20-year-old Nicholas James Johnson is listed as wanted for Violation of Bond – Obstructing Police.

The trial for three men charged with raping a Uintah County girl in 2016 has been moved to Salt Lake County in 3rd District Court. The trial of Jerry Flatlip, Randall Flatlip, and Larson Rondeau began in Summit County on December 12th but was declared a mistrial by the end of the day for failure to seat a jury.
The weather is cooperating nicely for the Hancock Cove Sewer project with plans to continue work as much as possible through the winter. In the recent weeks, Condie Construction Company has placed over 1,100 feet of pipe and 4 manholes. The crews have also moved forward digging test holes along the pipeline alignment to stay prepared for the conditions.
December is an exciting time for many people, especially for those that love ice fishing. Two ice fishing seminars are scheduled for Vernal in the coming weeks for a range of skill levels. “The seminars are a great opportunity to ask biologists and ice fishing experts what you can do to improve your success on the ice and the best part is, they’re free,” shares DWR outreach manager Tonya Kieffer.
The Roosevelt Junior High School hosted a career fair in Roosevelt on Tuesday, December 12th. This fair included students from Altamont Junior High School and Roosevelt Junior High School. 624 students comprised of 7th and 8th graders took the opportunity to investigate potential careers.
The Uintah High School Student of the Week is Sadie Young, nominated by Mr. Wilson. The Ute Athlete of the Week is Cub Deets, nominated by the wrestling staff.
The application deadline is approaching for Utah’s spring turkey hunt and the Division of Wildlife Resources is urging all to apply soon. “I think we’ll have a good turkey hunt in Utah next spring,” shares DWR upland game coordinator Jason Robinson. “The state’s turkey populations are doing really well.”
