The time is finally here! The Outlaw Trail Theater production of ‘Pirates of Penzance’ opens this week at the Outlaw Trail Amphitheater at Western Park. The team making Outlaw Trail Theater a success year after year, the Litton family, has been waiting for just the right year to take on this comedy opera.
It truly is always better to be safe than sorry. The Roosevelt Duchesne Ranger District has announced that due to high water and flooding danger, Bridge Campground, Riverview Campground, and Yellowstone Campground have closed. “The Yellowstone Group unit will still be accessible for now, but may have to close as well, depending on the flooding situation,” shares Ashley National Forest.
The criminal case against a Duchesne County Jail nurse has been reinstated by the Utah Court of Appeals and a trial has been ordered. 51-year-old Jana Clyde was charged in September 2017 by the State of Utah Attorney General with Negligent Homicide, a class A Misdemeanor, in the death of Madison Jensen in the Duchesne County Jail on December 1st, 2016. In a press release from the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office in 2017, it was stated that before her death, Madison Jensen’s family had reported Madison to law enforcement authorities and she was taken into custody and then died at the Duchesne County Jail as a result of complications related to chronic heroin use. In February 2018, 8th District Court Judge Lyle Anderson dropped the charge against Clyde on the basis that, according to Anderson, there was no direct evidence that there was a gross deviation from the standard of care, as required for criminal negligence.
A man known for his involvement in forest planning locally is moving on to an exciting new adventure in the far north. Jeff Schramm has served in Utah as a district ranger on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and Ashley National Forest and most recently serves as the Forest Supervisor of the Ashley National Forest.
Evans Family Media is ready for some summer fun, ‘Fun on 40’ to be exact. All next week, Evans Family Media is celebrating Roosevelt Spirit Week and are inviting all to join in the fun along Highway 40. Turns out we’re not the only ones that think Roosevelt is worth highlighting as the City was recently contacted by the Utah Office of Community Development to commend them on their excellent example of community engagement.
The Utah Field House of Natural History is holding a lecture that will appeal to those who love dinosaurs. The lecture will focus on how Ornithomimids were a vital component of the dinosaur community in Utah. These dinosaurs had some very unique features, like toothless beaks and long arms, that make them difficult to classify.
The Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue has designated Moffat and Uintah County as primary natural disaster areas, according to a press release from the USDA. This designation allows the Farm Service Agency to extend emergency credit to those producers who suffered losses because of drought conditions even if now the drought conditions have lessened.
Utah’s Permanent Community Impact Fund Board met for their monthly meeting on Thursday, this time in Vernal, and drew a big crowd of locals there to support one of the agenda items concerning funding to complete the EIS process for the proposed Uinta Basin Rail project. While there were many comments and opinions shared during the meeting, board member Naghi Zeenati offered a unique perspective as he also serves on the Utah Department of Transportation Commission.

For teens in the Uintah Basin area that have an interest in making films, there is an event coming that you would be interested in. There will be a filmmaking media lab being put on by Spy Hop. Spy Hop is a Utah company that mentors youth in the digital media arts.
The River Festival continues to give the Basin some unique opportunities to celebrate the John Wesley Powell expedition including River History Presentations coming up. The evening will have two presenters who are experienced river rafters who have had experience along the same route that the Powell expedition traveled.
