KNEU 1250A Uintah High School student has been selected to serve on a national suicide prevention council. Mario Bernal is now a member of the HOPE Squad National Council for the 2019 – 2020 school year.
Utah’s Permanent Community Impact Fund Board met for their monthly meeting on Thursday, this time in Vernal and drew a big crowd of locals there to support one of the agenda items concerning funding to complete the EIS process for the proposed Uinta Basin Rail project. After a long and thorough discussion, the $21.4 million dollars in funding was approved with a 9-1 vote and was followed by applause from the crowd.
Uintah County Emergency Management is helping spread the word of another flood advisory issued by National Weather Service. The flood advisory is for the Uinta River near Randlett and runs from Thursday afternoon to Sunday evening.
The option of a railway to transport goods from the Uinta Basin would be an economic game changer and officials and citizens alike are being urged to attend a meeting on the morning of June 13th in Vernal to share their support for the potential project. The meeting is for the Community Impact Board to review project applications from around the state.
Much was destroyed because of the Dollar Ridge Fire nearly a year ago, including damage to a state wildlife management area. On Tuesday, personnel from the Division of Wildlife Resources arrived by helicopter to the Wildcat Wildlife Management Area within the perimeter of the Dollar Ridge Fire to replace an important piece of equipment lost last year.

It was a trip to remember even before disaster struck in Roosevelt for a Colorado family headed home after camping and enjoying some family time at Lagoon. Sarah Graham describes what lead up to the moment disaster struck. She was driving her van on Highway 40 behind the family’s 26-foot motorhome which was being driven by her mother and was occupied by Sarah’s four children.
If you have been driving through Roosevelt City you might have noticed the numerous road improvement projects that are happening. The city started into roadwork projects this week that include paving the alleyways that are directly behind Highway 40. Roosevelt City shares that by working on the alleys it will provide better access for businesses and homeowners in the area. Also this week, Roosevelt City has crews laying asphalt on the road to the Roosevelt Animal Shelter.
National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the Duchesne River near Myton as well as upstream areas. “Excessive spring snowmelt runoff is expected to push the river above flood stage Thursday afternoon and this will impact lowland areas near Myton as well as upstream roads, bridges, and infrastructure,” shares the flood watch. Sand has been delivered by the Duchesne County Road Department in conjunction with Duchesne County Emergency Management to the American Legion building in Myton for the public to use in sandbags.
A prescribed burn is going as planned near Flaming Gorge Dam. Ashley National Forest provided an overview of the prescribed fire on Monday explaining that the fire was implemented in the Flaming Gorge Vernal Ranger District on the Ashley National Forest over the weekend. “Over 4100 acres were burned and 60 fire personnel from the Ashley National Forest and neighboring forests were assigned to the fire,” shares the Ashley National Forest.
Vernal Christian Church is accepting registration for their annual day camps. The 2019 Vernal Bible School summer camps are called ‘Roar! Life is Wild, God is Good.’ The free camps are for children ages 4-12 and will have games, crafts, music, snack and a Bible Story.
The coordinator of the Uintah School District’s ‘Community Employment Placement Program’, the group responsible for operating the local recycling program, has some strong words for community members that choose to improperly use the recycling bins.
