The Utah Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation- Uintah Basin Chapter is holding their Big Game Banquet this weekend. For those that aren’t familiar, the foundation works to “ensure the future of elk, other wildlife and their habitat and our Hunting Heritage. In support of our mission,” shares the Foundation, “the RMEF is committed to: conserving, restoring and enhancing natural habitats; promoting the sound management of wild elk, which may be hunted or otherwise enjoyed; restoring elk to their native ranges, and educating members and the public about habitat conservation and our hunting heritage.”

Terra Academy Boys Basketball Head to State in First Year With a Team

A local high school is making a run for a state championship in their very first year of play. The Terra Academy Boys Basketball team finished their season with 11 wins and just one loss, ranking them first in their division and sending them on a quest for the 2019 USSA state basketball championship for smaller schools in the state of Utah. The Terra Tigers hosted the East Hollywood High Manbears out of West Valley on Wednesday.

The Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus are performing tomorrow in concert, ‘The Melody Lingers On’ featuring the music of Mozart to Berlin. The concert is certain to be an emotional one for many of the performers past and present as it will be the last concert that Dr. James Bankhead and his wife Lyn will participate in while serving as the organization’s Artistic Director and Master Conductor for the choir.

New Superintendent Announced for Dinosaur National Monument

The National Park Service has announced a new superintendent for Dinosaur National Monument. Starting March 31st, Paul Scolari will serve as the Superintendent of the Monument in Colorado and Utah and will also supervise the Superintendent of Fossil Butte National Monument in Wyoming. Scolari has worked for the National Park Service for over 24 years and is currently the Chief of Resource Management and Planning over a group of national parks in California.

NASA’s Earth Science Division has gathered a selection of photos taken from the satellites that are pointed to earth and compiled them into a book. “The spectacular images in this book remind us of the majestic beauty of our world,” said Lawrence Friedl, program director in NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Earth Science Division in Washington.

Dinosaur Town Council Subpoenaed by Colorado’s 14th Judicial District Attorney

The Dinosaur Town Council is scheduled to be in Steamboat Springs today testifying before a grand jury about the ongoing investigation into the town’s inner dealings. Clay Thorp of the Craig Daily Press reports that Trustee David Heinrich “confirmed he and at least eight others were served a second round of subpoenas by 14th Judicial District attorneys” and that they were to appear before the grand jury on Thursday.

State of Utah Files Motion to Intervene in Ute Tribe Lawsuit Against United States

The state of Utah has taken a stand in a lawsuit filed by the Ute Tribe against the United States, Department of the Interior, and Secretary Ryan Zinke. Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes filed a motion to intervene in the lawsuit in which the tribe is staking claim to approximately 2 million acres of land in Uintah County. In a press release issued on March 9th, 2018, the Ute Tribe cites the “1880 Act”, which prompted the Ute Tribe’s move from Colorado to northeastern Utah, claiming the United States hasn’t kept their end of the deal.

Roosevelt City Public Works Department Thriving

Roosevelt City recently gave a shout out to their Public Works Department, sharing a study that compared them to other cities of similar size in Utah. The study helped to put in perspective their hard work and dedication. Roosevelt City Public Works has only six full-time staff members with two part-time laborers that help in the summer.
