While DWR officers catch plenty of wildlife violations on their own they are also asking for those in the great outdoors to keep their eyes open and if illegal hunting activities are observed, to report them.
Hundreds made the trek to Browns Park over the weekend to participate in an event that has become an annual favorite for many. The Jarvie Fest, held at the John Jarvie Historic Ranch on Saturday, was a good ol’ fashioned time that included wagon rides, leather working, horseback rides, flint-knapping, rope-and-candle making, and an old time photography booth.

The Uintah County Commission approved a policy statement for the Vernal Regional Airport required by the Department of Transportation on Monday. By Intern Writers from Union High School Evan Percival and Brian Spencer Union High School for 67 years has been a place of thousands of student’s education, memories, and sentimental value. In the fall of 2018 the students at Union will be moving across the street to the new Union High School building. Classes at Union High School opened in 1951. This new high school was a combination of rival schools Roosevelt High School and Alterra High School. Union or, as some have referred to it as, “Yoon-Yun” was born. The original cost for construction and furnishings was $625, 419. The school opened with 455 students with Loman F. Hutchings as the first Principal. Over the years the school has been renovated 7 times. What is to become of this iconic building? Part of this magnificent building is now district offices. Much of the school however will be demolitioned to make room for a proposed indoor sports training facility. The existing outdoor sports arenas and courts will stay as part of the new Union High School campus. Superintendent David Brotherson said that his favorite memory of Union High School is “just being with the kids…to be able to leave a legacy at this school for [Students] to be proud of.”
The Vernal Area Chamber’s 2nd Quarter Outstanding Public Service Award recipient is Aaron Averett of Sunrise Engineering. Averett opened the Sunrise Engineering Vernal office 6 years ago after having worked for Sunrise Engineering in Washington, Utah for 8 years.
