KNEU 1250Construction has been ongoing on the Vernal Regional Airport runway project . The paving portion of the project is now complete which is considered a major milestone in the project. The completion of the runway is considered a crucial part in upgrading local air service to support growth in the local economy.
Representative Rob Bishop is heading an effort aimed at balancing the interests between federal and local governments. As Chairman of the Speaker’s Task Force on Intergovernmental Affairs, Bishop held a hearing on Thursday to ask the question: “Are We ‘Federalizing’ Federalism?” to explore state and local government and interrelations with federal government.
A meeting aimed at public discussion and education on Proposition 5 is coming up. Proposition 5 asks voters to decide if Uintah County shall be authorized to impose a quarter of one percent sales tax, which is the equivalent of 1 cent for every $4 dollars spent, for the purpose of transportation services such as roads, traffic, pedestrian safety, public transit and non-motorized transportation.

A sentencing hearing continued late this week in a case of double vehicular homicide that resulted in the death of a one-year-old and her 62-year-old grandmother on March 10th in Green River, Wyoming. Baby Stella Doak and her grandma Debra DeVries were at home when 68-year-old George Maestas drove his vehicle into the residence resulting in their death and the serious injury of another adult in the home.
A local champion for education is being honored tonight at the UtahFutures Celebrates Stories of Champions Dinner at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. UBTech Admissions Specialist, Jim LaMuth, is one of only 14 in the state being named as an American Graduate Champion by helping Utah learners reach academic and professional milestones. It’s almost time for Utah’s most popular hunt and fall foliage is on full display ready to greet hunters. According to the Division of Wildlife Resources, over 60,000 hunters, along with their families and friends, will be trekking into Utah’s backcountry to enjoy the fall hunt and find that elusive mule deer buck.

Energy country is celebrating the EPA’s latest announcement that proposes to repeal the Obama administration’s “Clean Power Plan”. EPA administrator Scott Pruitt issued the notice which determined that the plan’s regulations exceed the EPA’s statutory authority.
The Ute Tribe issued a press release regarding the September 21st Tenth Circuit court decision to dismiss Wyoming v. United States. Because the United States already published its intent to repeal costly fracking rules published in 2015, the Tenth Circuit court followed by dismissing the appeals and suit related to those rules.
Prescribed burning in the Ashley National Forest is underway. The planned burning on Reservation Ridge, west of the Avintaquin Campground, will be in progress the remainder of this week and into next week.
