The Vernal Area Chamber has started accepting applications and time is of the essence for those hoping for a spot, shares Chamber Director Joel Brown. There will be 40 trees this year.
Dr. Michael Bankhead has directed orchestras around the world and is also a household name for many in the Uintah Basin arts community. As the artistic director of the Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus, Dr. Bankhead has invested many hours in eastern Utah over the last 4 years and will likely spend many more in the years to come.
The Roosevelt City Library pulled off another successful Fandom event on Saturday providing locals with an unforgettable cosplay experience. Dressing up as a favorite superhero or sci-fi star is a growing hobby for fans of all ages and over 140 people showed up for the event at the Grace Event Center.
Colorado’s Highway 13 may be getting some major upgrades if federal funding comes through at the request of the Colorado Department of Transportation. CDOT has applied for $21 million dollars in federal funding that would be added to $60 million dollars from the state to see major safety upgrades complete on the stretch of road that runs north from Rifle, through Meeker and up to Craig and beyond.
There’s been an adjustment to the schedule of releases from the Flaming Gorge Dam. According to Hydraulic Engineer Heather Patno, the Bureau of Reclamation encountered some unexpected issues during the annual maintenance of the generation units at Flaming Gorge Dam resulting in only one unit available beginning Tuesday, October 10th.

The public’s help is being sought as authorities try to find a missing Rangely man. According to the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, 66-year-old Peter Christian Ruffner has not been seen since Friday, September 29th.

Higher education is emphasized in high schools throughout the Basin and one lucky group of students recently enjoyed a college campus tour in Logan. Thirty Ute Tribe members who are high school students from Union and Uintah River high schools traveled to the Utah State University Logan campus for a two day introduction to the college experience.
