KNEU 1250The Division of Wildlife Resources has committed to continue a long standing community tradition though likely under a new name. The final and 29th Annual Josie Shoot was held at the Vernal Rod and Gun Club on Saturday where women from ages 12 to nearly 70 years old competed shooting .22 rifles.
Dinah and her minions are taking over the streets of Naples and Vernal. Last year was the first year the rodeo committee sponsored a Dinah decorating contest between local businesses. A wooden Dinah silhouette was provided free of charge and once decorated, was displayed in the front of participating businesses through June and into the rodeo.
A state fire restriction order is now officially in place as of Thursday and citizens are encouraged to become educated on what all that means. Under Utah State law the following acts are prohibited in all unincorporated private and state lands within Duchesne and Uintah Counties:
The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is congratulating a new batch of officers to have completed Crisis Intervention Training at the Utah CIT Academy. The Utah CIT Academy is based on a model out of Memphis Tennessee.
Known as one of the biggest events in the Vernal area every year, the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo is prepping to welcome thousands to the event with a long history. The rodeo can be traced back to 1932 when it was known as the Blue Mountain Rodeo. The event drew 50 riders and provided entertainment to the community.
Traffic is slowing down as construction progresses on Highway 40 between Myton and Roosevelt. UDOT announced Tuesday that Pole Line Road will be closed at the intersection of Highway 40 all day on Thursday for utility work.
The Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers announced Tuesday their proposal to rescind Obama’s 2015 “Waters of the U.S.” rule. According to the EPA announcement, the proposal would reinstate the regulatory text that existed prior to 2015 and once finalized the rule would provide certainty in the interim while they wait for a re-evaluation and second rulemaking of the definition.
Entities in Duchesne and Uintah Counties are collaborating on a water resource master plan in order to study water resources and needs into the future. The Uintah County Commission passed a motion during their Monday meeting that they support the study as the western portion of Uintah County needs to be included in the study area.
Independence Day in the Uintah Basin will start off with an exhilarating jolt of patriotism. According to Vernal Chamber Director Joel Brown, parade organizers received confirmation that not only will the parade have a fly over this year but there will be two F-35 Lightning from Hill Air Force Base.

The Uintah County Commission expressed appreciation during Monday’s Commission meeting for the many people and agencies that helped with the recovery effort on the Green River last week. After a month of searching, the bodies of 3 Vernal men who had been missing since May 22nd were recovered from the river about a quarter mile from the Jensen bridge.
It was a series of unfortunate events Monday in the Vernal area. According to Rocky Mountain Power, the afternoon power outage that affected much of the Vernal area was caused by a car running into a power pole. The accident took place on Highway 40 around 1700 West. The car hit a pole and knocked the circuit out.
